But is it necessary to be use for aquarium water?

oh my… here we go :SURRENDER

just got my inline TDS yesterday, soo happy!

the short answer is yes.

My short answer is no.

:-)lol This should be fun!

Lol funny the people who say RO water isn’t necessary give up on keeping corals. Just a casual observation.

reefman66 If you do a search on the forum this topic has been debated in the past in this forum and every other forum. Most of us think it is necessary. A couple of people don’t think it is.

There are always exceptions to the rules and always people that believe there fish can have intelligent conversations with them through telepathy. It is also not absolutely required to use any kind of mechanical pump to keep a high flow aquarium, but I personally would rather plug in a power head then mix by hand. To each their own. Just my personal opinion.

lol our water isn’t even safe for us to drink! why would you NOT want to purify it for your precious life forms?

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,336286,00.html

also consider most houses probably have copper water lines

just one more example

http://www.ewg.org/tapwater/contaminants/contaminant.php?contamcode=2068

the scary thing is, most every water report you read, and the allowable levels, aren’t safe at all, just not enough to do major harm short term, there are 2100 known cancer causing agents in most tap water.

if you want do to do anything more than fish only ( and realy why even set up a fish only) then u can use tap water but your fish will still prob not live as long or as healthy and you will also have a constant fight with hair algae or bryopsis and other fun thing. ps cyano also

Sorry, didn’t know that it’s such a sore subject around here. I’m just new to this forum and trying to find out how people around here maintain their water with their reef tank.

No problem at all. Just wanted to say something firm about this before it is dragged into a long debate as it has been in the past. Most of us who maintain full reef tanks have RO.

for the record, i made this thread just to state that i used my ro/di for the first time to make a pot of coffee and it was delicious! lol!

did u use ro as in 50 ppm or di as in 0 ppm? i love ro water, better then bottled without the waste (as long as u use the waste water, lol).

HEHehe… Is that from Sprung or Delbeek?

Well this thread has made me decided to try something new. I agree that RODI makes a good cup of coffee - I also feel that RODI is necessary for a healthy reef tank. So I decided to take it one step further…

I used RODI to make the coffee that I used to top off my reef tank!!

Ya know what? The tank looks a little darker then it did yesterday, but the corals are all opened up, the fish are more active, the hermit crabs are a little cranky, and I no longer have that “jersey shore” smell to my basement, was a little weird ot have the fish lined up at the top of the tank when I went down to top it off this morning…

Well, we have all heard that "America runs on Dunkin"so maybe it should be changed to say…“America’s reef tanks run on Dunkin” LOL!!! :GOLD) :-)lol

allright joe maby your tank is the exception and not the rule but i also havent seen your tank and dont know what you keep so how about you post some pics and tell us what survives in tap water. and about the coffie i thought most ppl put a split so that they could drink the water after the ro but before the di but i cant say for sure why this is done.

This is done because when the water moves through the DI chamber it loses ALL flavor and tastes kinda like dirt. So I’ve heard at least - I try not to eat too much dirt these days…
