We were checking out my ro/di system and cant find any info on it to figure out what filters it takes. He did find a sticker on it that said changed last in 2007 So we have decided to purchase a new one.
What do I need to know before purchasing one? Where is the best/cheapest place to buy one. Thanks
It seems you have 5 stage filtering systems. Usually stage 1 is 10 micron sediment filter, 2 is 5 micron Coconut Carbon Block, 3 is 1 micron Coconut Carbon Block, 4 which is TFC and will be your most expensive replacement and should be replace every couple of years/ depends on your usage, 5 is your DI.
My suggestion is to replace that inline DI filter and replace with another 10" canister and refillable DI cartridges. Much easier to replace the DI and will add more DI resin to the system. Also, in the future you can also add additional DI cartridge to the system. So that once the first DI cartridge depletes, its time to change the DI without have to do the guess work. Additionally inline TDS meter of course.
Below are the link to our sponsor AWI and The Filter Guys which are the guys I use. Both are great and I believe AWI will give you a percentage off if you mention that you are our club member.
I have a pure water club, if you stay with their setup take the DI cartages off and mount them vertical with both feeding from the bottom up, there is plenty of post out there on the channeling effects of running DI housings horizontal.
With it being that old and not knowing if the membrane was ever replaced and may have dried out even
I would suggest http://www.purewaterclub.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=53_51_97&products_id=315
I have the same unit I added a MaxCap D2 Dual-Stage DI System Add-On.
my filters normally last about 8 months my add on DI is at 10 months now and still outputting 0 but then again it’s between 0 - 2 going in.
I looks like the unit uses standard 10 inch filters. Most RODI units use this making brands interchangeable. Kent Marine DI is an exception, they will not work. Coralife sediment and carbon block are inexpensive and will work. I have purchased stuff from our online sponsor Airwaterice.com and was very happy with service, price (does offer club a discount - see their thread for code) and quick shipping. I like their bulk DI resin, refilling the cartrige is much cheaper. Make sure you never use hot water in your unit, it will destroy the membrane. (I did before) Do not let the membrane go dry either. You can upgrade the membrane too for faster water production, but you must also change the flow restrictor to match it. I did this with my coralife unit, put in the fast flush restrictor. I was happy with the 50% faster porduction.
Am I correct in saying my unit has two inline di cartridges? And if I purchase the filter pack that you linked me to I would then need to buy a canister and some resin in addition to this?
The canisters on top are for the R/O membrane, where yours appear to be DI Cartridges.
If its too much of a mystery on how to remove your two DI canisters you could always just clean them out and leave them there…then route some new 1/4" water line to the BRS Single Canister.
Better yet, goto the forums list, scroll down to the Air Water Ice sponsor board (where our sponsors can list their specials) and there is a 10% off code. I’ll also PM it to you.
BRS is $39.99 for the Setup, and you have to purchase $12 worth of Color Changing DI Resin also.
