ro unit

well ill be looking for a ro unit so i can make my own water. what is a good one. i figured i could go and buy a corallife from pa but i figure a better one would be just a little more. also is there any way to cut back on the reject water? it would be alot to waste. could u plumb it so it would filter the water that has been rejected insted of the reject water going down the drain? (i would stil use it for koi pro) thanks brett

Several of our sponsors carry very good RODI units. Some even have a feature that reduces the amount of waste water (more $$ but less waste). Waste water does not need to go down the drain, you can route it out a window and water the grass, use a larger container for fresh water applications, I’ve used mine to fill the hot tub. Just make sure if you are recapturing the waste water that the container is at least 4 times the size of the container you use to make the RO water.

Bought mine a couple years ago from airwaterice.com (one of our sponsors). I bought this one http://www.airwaterice.com/product/1DUALHR/Dual_Home_Reef_with_Tank_Faucet_for_under_the_sink.html
as I use it for drinking water as well. Top notch service from those guys too!

I honestly am not thrilled with their service. I bought a 5 stage unit a couple months ago, never got a TDS reading of 0, sent a couple of e-mails about it but never got a response. The unit seems well built, makes plenty of water, just can’t get the TDS as low as I’d like.

However the float switch and ASOV still made it a worthwhile purchase regardless.

Have you test the tds meter? Also check that the canisters are seated properly as water can seep through if the seals are not 100%.
I found their service and products great.

Sorry to hear that. Mine works pretty good, and I’m suprised they haven’t called you and tried to figure it out w/ you. They were on the phone w/ me when I was installing it, I wanted to make sure I was doing it right.

I haven’t tested the TDS meter. I’m not even sure how one would test a TDS meter. I am working under the assumption that the TDS meter is crap, which is why I haven’t been too worried about not getting a 0 reading. I have heard many good things about their service, which is why I was a little surprised that they would allow 2 e-mails to go unanswered. Believe me, I’m not holding anything against them, I haven’t exactly picked up the phone yet either.

I have checked to make sure everything is seated properly as well.

i guess you test the TDS sensor like any other sensor. with a known calibrated test solution. you buy a little bag of water.
