Great pics Rob
Wow thats some nice pics. I need to read that article. Do we have access to this on the web? I got a camera a little while ago but still struggle with getting the white balance right. I end up with a slow shutter speed to compensate for setting white balance. Don’t want to hijack asking stuff here, so great pics. Thanks for sharing!
Fun with Blue Lighting photography. Going for Accurate representations, not trying to fluff anything up.
Pretty much taking the photos as such:
Nikon D60
Shutter Speed: 1/40
Aperture: f5.6
Exposure Compensation: 0
Focal Length: 55mm (using the standard 18-55 lens)
ISO: 400
All of that sounds WAY more complex then it really is. In reality, all I’m doing is setting the Nikon on “S” for shutter priority. There is a thumb wheel that I can manipulate to change the shutter speed to be faster/slower. The camera is doing everything else for me at this point as far as f-stop/ISO, ect…
I have the camera white balanced off of a picture of a white lid (off some carbon) in my tank, under the LED’s.
In iPhoto, all I’m doing is sliding the color temperature up from the 4,000’s (which is in the blue zone) up to 10k white. All while doing some cropping to remove pictures of hair algae
Stunner (I think I got it from Jason? Beadlocked450r):

Dragon Soul Favia (Thanks Moliken):
Lepastrea: (Saltcritters) Gotta get one with better focus.
Ricordea: (DRC Raffle) The marbling of the blue/orange near the center is AWESOME. I gotta get a better shot that is in focus.
The “Marblization”?

Looking good Rob!
Those are some cool blue pics Rob. No pic of the clam you got from PEA?
The clam isn’t really any fun under the blues, but here he is during the daytime:
Palau Cultured Crocea from PacEast:
Clam is roughly just below middle in my tank. I read that they are naturally rock growers and need good light, thats why it isn’t in the sand. This is about the maximum that it’s opened up so far. It has already attached itself to two pieces of rubble rock, so I glued those to the position you see here. It’s mantle is mostly earth tones of grey/brown with some blue veins near the tips, with its center being considerably more blue, with larger blue veins.
It won’t take them long to acclimate to their place. Once they get used to it and like it they will open up for you. Of course you know you won’t be able to see their true colors unless you look at them from the top. I love it though.
Great looking pics rob, clam looks great as well.
Clam looks great Rob
Wow, its really been 120+ days since I’ve posted in this thread…
Well, the house still isn’t sold, so the tank is still up. I “Harvested” all the algae off the rocks the other day before a showing and re-scaped the tank.
Sometime before then my heater died. The electronic thermostat on it was still working, reading 68’f, and it was trying to heat, but the element finally died. I noticed that the Niger trigger was pretty inactive too, usually just hanging out under a rock…now I know why. I had an old glass in-tank heater that I tossed in there as a backup, it was too tall to hoop up to the fuge.
I think I’m headed to DPA tonight to get some Damsels / Chromis to toss in here for something to look at.
PS: I still need to clean the sand of random vacant frag plugs and snail shells.
Tank includes:
Niger Trigger
Random Zoa’s
Green and Purple shrooms
Kenya Tree
Turbo Snails
Lee, you got the lions share of the stuff, how’s it all doing?
Well that wasn’t long! Welcome back!lol
wow…i dont how you looked at that so long with it being depleted. i would have gotten a lionfish or a dogfaced puffer just to at least have something to look at
The End
All good things must come to an end. As most of you know, we’re looking to move, and the house is on the market. Just sold the remaining livestock and rock.
I’d like to thank everyone in this club, there are too many people to mention, you know who you are. I started this journey as a Novice, and thru all the great information here available from the members, I was able to get this tank hosting SPS, LPS, some amazing fish, and at one point, a few million red planaria… verdict_in (I think I might have started the Melanurus trend at DPA too)
Anywho, thanks again to everyone! I wish this club great success in the future. I’ll be around.
