sea monster....

so for about a month now ive been seeing some frags i have on the sand being moved during the night, at first i thought it was my snails moving it or my fish or something, but then my yumas started to disapear (which i was mighty pissed about) and then one morning i come down and my toadstool had been dragged under one of my rocks, i take it out and find it was almost bitten in half, it was originally about 2 inches in diameter…so it had to be something. over the past few days ive been seeing more and more debris piled up in front of a hole in my live rock so i knew it had to be some type of worm or shrimp or somehting…well last night i saw it.

its a freakin BOBBIT WORM i cant believe it, when i first started reefing over a year ago i read about the nightmares these thing cause since they can grow to be almost 9 feet long and like an inch or so thick. well now i have one, luckily its in a smallish rock so i might just try to remove the entire piece. we shall see. anyone else ever deal with one?

Never, but good luck with that. I’ve seen pics of them and hear they wreak havoc on softies.

Better your hand then mine. They look absolutly freaky

ohh trust me my hand isnt going anywhere near its cave

Dude, I would like to see that in person. Never seen one except for in pictures. Sorry to hear about your corals.

Wow! Good luck!

Looks like here’s a thread of a guy going through the same thing right now… http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f6/nasty-bobbit-worm-157622-2.html Maybe you can contact him and bounce ideas off each other?

That would be great if you could bring that thing to the next meeting! Or are you looking forward to toturing it slowly once you catch it slap-stick
eating a mans yumas “is” punishable by death ::rofl::

hahhaa we’ll see. i wont be able to make it to next meeting but ill think of something to do

i think after you catch it u make a dedicated tank for it

i was thinking about that but man, i dont know where id put another tank, although it would be sweet…but i dont think a 9 foot worm would like a 2.5 gallon tank hahaha

That’s Incredible!! You have to give it to Jon. He will trade a frag or two for it, I’m sure. He likes to keep things like that for pets, to study. Right Jon?
