Delaware passed a similar law in the last year or 2. Its illegal to buy, sell or posess shark fins. It carries a big fine. Not sure if anyone has been charged yet locally. Shark “finning” is a horrible practice. 100million a year! Loads of poachers around South African waters. Saw a documentary on it at one point.

My girlfriend does sand tiger shark tagging for school/work and she was telling me about some of the sharks they pulled up missing a fin and some of them washing up dead with no fins. It’s really a sad thing to see

This happened in the Atlantic Ocean? I thought it usually happens in the Pacific or down in the Indian Ocean.

Yes she works and goes to school at Del State. She said it’s not really common but they have seen a few. This is only her second year here and seen it twice last year. 1 of them was washed up and the other they caught.

Wow. You think she may be interested in speaking at our meeting on the subject? or anything we can learn from the ocean point of view? It would be greatly appreciated.

I’m not sure. She’s out of town right now. She has to travel often for work. Because her main work for her masters is Gulf Sturgeon tagging down in Florida. I will ask her maybe we can make it to another meeting when she will be around.
