Snail, ID ME

saw this guy crawling across the back glass munching on algae. never added anything like this so i’m confused as to what it is… The only thing i can think of is a stomatella. never noticed it before either. :stuck_out_tongue:

keep it or heave it?

It’s ugly. The stoma snails I have are lighter, but look very similar.

does it have a hard shell? i think i have seen these in my tank. can you get a better pic?

I’m 95% sure it is a stomatella and 95% sure it is benifical and would recommend keeping it at this point.

ok thanks added back to the population… beats me where he hitched a ride.

If you purchased any corals from Premium Aquatics they have a very healthy microfauna there typically.(the 4 refugiums and large sumps help with that) If not these snails typically reproduce well in captivity and it wouldn’t shock me if many other LFS have them as well.

The one you shared a picture of and the one on Melev’s reef you don’t see as much as the duller colored ones.

the only corals i have got from DPA where the ones in the sand bed for 5 bucks lol. something is always going on at home when i want the corals in those tanks. I do have a 220 i gotta stock soon YahoO

I have bagged up tiny little plugs before and found 3-4 critters fall of them. Still a good chance you got them from DPA.
