snail id

ok so i got my explorer microscope lol heres what i got

what do you think? i don’t see the “little lip in the opening hole” that pyrams are supposed to have ::thinking::

Yeah plus the smooth lines thes is more like cross crossing lines. Looks more like the rissoids. The one concern I have is how they grouped on my Astrae snails? Maybe they’re new eggs that hatched. The magnification is 50x

Cool new Toy. I was thinking of getting a digital scope someday.

Oh well this one is of the utmost quality ha ha it’s the cheapest made thing but it does zoom in. Got it at the hobby place by de park entrance by Kirk. Hghwy. They have one othe model but that one is too strong. It was cheap.

Both refer to the snails that are one astre snails. Same little nasties but on snails, still would try to get them out.

I’ve had some astrea snails in qt for months, keeping them clean of the “little suspect” snails. Anyway, i finally put one back in my display, put it right on the hippo clam and thats where its been feasting since (3 days). On day 2 i noticed it has the “snails” back on the underside again. What i’ve read says that pyrams are very host specific, but i’ll have to get a microscope to know for sure. everything looks fine though ::thinking::

So… the past few nights i have been inspecting with a 15x mag. glass. the snails in the tank. I do believe the type of snail is a pyr but preys on other snails only. I have 2-3 astrae, 15-20 nerites, 3-5 ceriths, and like 20 nassarious. There are thousands of small baby snails they look like nerites. The probable pyr. snails seem to choose the astrae snails first the nerite second, haven’t found one on any other specie. My question is whats the best way to get them out. i really do need more snails in the tank, should i get some astraes to attract the pyr. so i can remove them? or completely try to remove every snail i see even the thousand babys. I really want to get rid of them. Not sure of the best way? Also the baby nerites have them too 1 out of every 15-20 have one on it. the pyr. is half the size of them.

Are you 100% sure what they are? Are they causing any damage?if not why would you clean house if there not causing any problems?are they attacking ur clams?are they bothering your acros? If not it seems to me your a little paranoid? :TWOCENTS

tim wants some escargot

Wow that’s a lot of snails!

they are parasitic snails eating other snails i want them gone and want my small baby snails to be able to grow up. I think thats why they aren’t growing the pyr may be killing them before they can grow.

Here’s some picks i just took, spotted a couple after lights out, scooped em up… here’s the best pics i could get of the little guys… I couldn’t see any “fold” inside the opening, or get a good shot of the “swirl” at the top of the shell…
two things though…
#1…i don’t like the look of the shell pattern…

and #2…i need to get a better look under a microscope
