I was doing a WC when i noticed two new growths ive never seen before…at first it looked like i mightve inherited some rock with an encrusting monti that i didnt know about…
but when i touched the stuff, it was soft like a leather corals…Its ‘pink’ and resembles an encrusting monti in every way…i have two little patches of it on the under side of rock…none of it is growing in direct sunlight…it grows very low with very little ‘nubs’ sticking out…the ‘nubs’ almost have a ‘yellow’ tint to them…
you cant pull it off the rock either, prolly would have to scrap it…it would be hard for me to take a pic of it, but im going to try to find something similar while i research online…any ideas?
I’m going to go with the obvious answer and say probably just a sponge. They come in all colors, shapes, and sizes in our tanks. The fact that it’s growing under a rock away from the light leads me to think it’s just a normal run of the mill sponge.
ahah, ok…its crazy how long some things can remain dormant, or unseen, i havent added anything new in a very very long time…since the crash…so its a suprise to see something new growing.
Sponge are also very resilient creatures. It only takes 1 spore surviving to regrow.
Many many corals have come back from the great calcium skeleton in the sky sprout new polyps months and years after they’d been written off as a total loss.
I had a pink algae that grew out like little monti-looking shelves, but soft, as you stated
Yea i have a lime green sponge growin in between two rocks where my sebae used to be… sebae must have move cuz of it’s growth near it’s foot.
I’ve got them growing all over mine but there pink ones and white ones between the rocks.
Yeah, i got them toe sniffin sponges of many colors growing all over the under sides of my rock and corals all over the tanks. but then, you know what? they not only look good, they do good, by filter, cleaning the watet of crud and keeping the tank healthy.
Good stuff them micro sponges. Great filters.
AARRGH!
I heard that if you take a little bit of sponge and drop it in a blender with some tank water, and turn it on , you can seed another tank with the same sponge material? and improve the looks and filtration there too? or so they say.
Dang? You mean blenders are not just for Margarita’s?
Who’d a thunk?
