SPS "Coloring up"

I’ve heard people talk about SPS coloring up under good lighting. Being new to SPS I really thought it was a bunch of crap and was just some guys way of selling his brown sticks.

Well I’ve had this acro for a little under a month now

And I have to say I am REALLY impressed with the new color

Unfortunately my hammer coral is preventing a good shot of the whole thing, but I think you get the idea. And to be honest - it looks even better in person.

very nice craig. and great polyp extension

Looking good Craig. Hammer isn’t too close is it?

Thanks Jon - I’m really pleased with it. The hammer is a good distance away, just happens to be in the straight line between the camera and the acro.

Beautiful frag Craig, nice polyp extension, I think it likes your tank GolfC

HJack SPS are strange, I have a small frag of blue mille for 5 mo now with no sigh of any polyps or growth, just hangs in there?

Craig its looking good. keep it up lol

It does look much better in person! Tank and SPS are looking good Craig

Isn’t it great when things go right in your tank. that coral is looking very healthy Craig. Glad your SPS are doing well. ENJOY!!! :BEER

Rosti, have you tried moving it to other locations in your tank? Also is it the only SPS without PE?

You are doing it right.

Heres an article with further suguestions to improve coloration too.

they have some impossibly crispy colors here, but im working on it too.

Interesting article, but please take note of the comments in the article. Dosing the mentioned supplements can be like playing with a loaded gun. Most colors in SPS corals are a direct result of very good water params, water clarity and choice of lighting. I would not suggest that you use any of the supps mentioned in that article.
Just my :TWOCENTS

Looking good Craig. But what color is it cloring up to? IMO like John said, “Most colors in SPS corals are a direct result of very good water params, water clarity and choice of lighting”.

The blue milli that I got from John is in the center left in the pic.

Quick pic of mine.

Mine is coloring up very green

Looking good Craig…i’m on a color mission now also…good info guys!

Reefman, what a great pic of your tank. And everything is looking good. You should start a post with some more pics of your tank.
Saltcreep, I have found that changing my bulbs, which are MH and VHO, yearly, has contributed to keeping the colors of my corals consistant. This is a big expense every year, about $270, so this is one of the reasons I am interested in LED lighting, just not totally convinced enough yet to make the switch.
