I have never had a reef tank over 50g so I am a little unsure of a good stocking level as far as fish go for my 95g.
Right now I have:
1 x 4" hippo tang
3 x 2" wrasses
I am planning on adding 3 more fairy wrasses and moving my black occi clowns over from my 39g. This would give me a total of 9 fish. For those of you with similar sized tanks do you think this is pushing it? I do have a good skimmer and do 15-20% bi-weekly water changes, but I don’t want to over do it.
i cannot imagine that’d be considered overstocking
10 now-15-20 inches of fish later in a 95 w the changes you describe. i have about 12 inches of fish in my 65, gobies, blenny and clowns, but as a newbie, i’d defer to more experienced people
i think you are plenty under size restrictions. honestly, the more u stock… the more u have to change the water. like i tried to explain to the wife, less fish is less maintenance. more fish = more nitrates = more changes. but i dont think u are gonna be anywhere near a max load on your tank. even with some tougher corals that u r prolly gonna end up with.
just my :TWOCENTS
(but this from a guy keeping a trigger in a semi-reef!!! lolol)
If it were my tank that is about what I would keep (amount of fish) in a tank that size. Maybe another small fish (mandarin?). Of course I’ve never kept a tank larger than 55 before!
Questions, Why 3 fairys + 3 other wrasses? Never kept a wrasse (or multiple obviously), but do you think you’ll have any aggression issues w/ 6 similarly typed fish?
I don’t think its too many fish but as stated before because of the poo level you need to keep up on filtration and dilution. I also would stagger the addition of the additional 4 fish to give the tank a chance to adjust to the bio-load

Most people that keep fairy & flasher wrasses keep multiple species together. They tend to get along pretty well as long as you don’t try and keep two supermales of the same species together. Having multiples actually increases the flashing. I will be keeping different colored species so I don’t think I will have any issues.
You should check out the thread on RC about fairy wrasses. They have some awesome photos. I think they are some of the most beautiful reef fishes and they are peacful to boot. You couldn’t ask for a better suited fish for a reef.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I have always tended to keep low numbers of fish in my tanks, but I have never had this many gallons to play with.

Most fairy wrasses and other wrasses are big wimps. They dont really bother ANYONE.
