We typically see a fall off of activity during the summer months and don’t hold regular meetings. If either of you is interested in becoming a premium member (and having access to the marketplace area of the forum), send me a PM and I will give you my address to send the dues. Once I have your check, we will get the web guy to change your membership status.

+1 for me id LOVE a buy sell trade forum
Being a Premium Member and having talked to some of the people on the board, I don’t quite understand why this forum is still premium member only buying and selling. It was changed earlier this year and honestly, I feel it should be changed back but that’s just my :TWOCENTS
Maybe we can talk about it at our first Fall meeting!!! (Lindsay and I are excited to see everyone again :))
it could prevent some issues from developing; it’s less likely for current members to engage in dishonest or subversive behavior. when buying or selling used equipment integrity is extremely important( think of the ratings on ebay). One way to gauge this is by requiring a membership within the club.
Well when I started this thread I didn’t know they had a buy and sell thread in the premium members page so now I know they have one I will just join.I think it is a good idea to have it locked because then utmost likely won’t be getting some
Onetrying to screw u over
We can certainly discuss it at a meeting. Just remind the officers before the next meeting. I too can’t wait to have a meeting again.
The biggest reason, in my opinion, that the For Sale/Trade forum was moved into premium members only was to protect our members and our sponsors. We’ve had people who posted the exact same FS thread in every club forum on the east coast pretending to be a new local member, and very well may have been a scam artist as we were never able to contact them. We also had a fairly local person who was selling clams and very large LPS coral, it was obvious by the volume he was selling he was purchasing wholesale and selling to hobbyist at retail. This was not at all fair to our paying sponsors.
I could bring up 2-3 other issues we’ve had with things where we were able to protect our members from because the Market Place was for trusted members only.(we trust easily, tell us a bit about yourself, and take a look around the site and talk to us for a bit then show up to a meeting with $10 and you’re in)
We can talk more at the meeting where these things are more easily discussed. Meetings are typically the third Monday of every month starting in Sept, but the officers have not announced the next meeting date yet.
For me, one of the biggest interests in the clubs website was the ability to sell, buy, or trade with local people on top of the advice that you can get. I understood that there were risks involved, just like craigslit, ebay, even shopping in a store.
In my opinion, instead of requiring membership, maybe you should require that the person be an active member of the site for a period of time before they can post to that forum, I believe that was the original requirement a year ago. I believe it required you to have posted on the forums a number of times (like 10 or 20 times) in order to gain access to that forum?
My opinion is that its kind of pretentious and I see it as a ploy to drive up membership. I doubt I will ever be a full premium member in the club, not because of this issue, but mainly because I just don’t see me driving to Newark to attend the meetings. So, for what is already an expensive hobby to be in, I will be missing out in a very valuable piece of this website, which is unfortunate.
If the work that has been put into building and maintaining the site, and all the work it takes to moderate, all the effort that has been put in to taking requests, isn’t worth $10… then there is always Craig’s list and Ebay. The site was created for the club members not the forum members.
I personally wouldn’t consider the requirement pretentious, it’s definitely more of a precaution from my perspective. I know there are events or meetings downstate , hopefully you could find the time to visit at some point.
