Tank photos

Just wanted to post 2 copies of a picture that I took a few minutes ago. The first photo is before processing, the second is post processing using Adobe Photoshop Elements.

As shot:

After processing:

I am using a Canon Rebel XTi with a 100mm Canon Macro lens. Here are my photo settings:

F-Stop: f2.8
ISO: 200
White Balance: Auto

I shot the photo in RAW format and used Photoshop Elements to fix the colors. I just tweaked the Temperature, Tint (very little), Vibrance and Saturation. I thought it turned out pretty good.

very nice ::thumbsup::
have you used canon’s raw processor DPP?

When I first got the camera, I played with the software that came with the camera (I think that is what you are talking about) but I didn’t understand RAW Processing yet. I really didn’t start RAW processing until after I got an old version of Photoshop Elements from a friend a couple years ago.

Nice shot, really nice color improvement in post editing. Have you tried that shot using a higher aperture/ f stop??

I took the shot at a couple of different FStops but i don’t think it changed much. The lens itself is locked to 2.8 i think. Here is the lens I am using:

I am not sure that it is “locked” or if it’s just optimal to use it at 2.8.

That is a nice shot. I think it might look even better if it was 1/2 stop less. I think it is slight over exposed and the colors would look richer with just a little less light.

Nice shot and editing.

Try setting the camera on AV mode, which gives you direct control of the aperture, and will set the shutter speed accordingly. now depending on the available light, and the ISO speed used, the shutter speed could get pretty low and require a tripod…but just to see the diff affects try this

try that same zoo shot.
just set iso to a high setting to start 1600 (not the best quality, but will let you get some handheld shots without a tripod)
try a shot a 2.8…you’ll get a very shallow depth of field…a lot of blur
try a shot at 8.0 you should see just from that a big diff in how many zoos are in focus… the higher you go the more depth you’ll get
your lens goes up to f/32, but i doubt you’ll get that high handheld.
Thats a great lens, and will take better pics when operating higher in the f/stops
let me know how it works!

Yea I almost always use a tripod with my wireless remote when taking macro pictures. I’ll give it a try using a few different f/stop settings and post the results once my lights come on this morning.
