I’d take your tank/sump that you are looking to drill and have a glass company drill it for you.
Two come to mind. Kaufman glass and Mike’s glass.
They charge like $5-$10 per hole and they have the professional tools to do the job properly along with years of expertise.[/quote]
That’s not too bad a price, but most of us like to drill holes in tanks. It’s actually pretty easy, and a $10 bit can get you a bunch of holes… but thats good to know if you ever need one hole drilled and its not worth ordering a bit…good tip…
BTW :Welcome) to the club, and how’s the chalice doing from the raffle?
Hi Saltcreep! Good to hear from you. It feels good to be a part of the club. The Blue Chalise is doing great.
I bought a 180 gallon today and just finished setting it up. Really excited about it. Going to be a full blown reef. I also received with the tank (bought it off of Craigslist) a 55 gallon Refugium aquarium.
I am excited to get this up and running too once the aquarium cycles.
I put the tank in my basement in the finished area and have the Refugium sitting in the unfinished with the plumbing running through the wall.
:Welcome) toxic.
you know that 55 gallon tanks, generally, cannot be drilled. j/i/c you were thinking of drilling the 55 you have for a fuge. you can check if it is doable through a pair of polarized sunglasses, but i’m fuzzy on the details. do NOT drill the 55 until you are sure or ::hitsthefan::
btw a 180 is an amazing tank, congrats. i wish i had gone that route.
You don’t have to drill the tank to install a closed loop system. you can build a hang on back system with an external pump and PVC piping. like two syphon U-tubes hanging in the tank, suction/return. to prime it just stick a power head in the suction, turn on the pump and it will fill and blow out the air.
