25gal of SW mixed up. Tomorrow I go at em w/ a siphon and a media bag to siphon/filter out as many as I can, then we’ll dose the EXIT, do a WC, and fire up some new carbon. I’ll post pics of anything of interest that happens as they die off. They sure scare the crap out of you about the toxins that they can release once they die.
Wow it looks like a couple more since the last picture I saw. Siphon them into the media bag, a sprinkle of carbon in the bag helps. Then… :-)###
Wow that’s a lot get out as many as you can first
Good luck
These suckers come off pretty easy w/ a siphon, or is it gonna be a PITA?
They come off easy. You don’t need a big hose really, 3/8 works fine. Larger has more suction but can fill the sump fast. I wouldn’t go more than 1/2". Bright white light makes them easier to see when siphoning.
They did siphon off pretty easy with a 3/8" tube. Nice. Siphoning done, dropping the hammer on em now! (eXit).
FLAT WORMS!!!
but don’t over dose. It takes a bit to see them curl up, be patient. but dont leave it in overnight.
otherwise it works fine.
one thing to do is overfill the sump so the high water mark in the sump and stuff gets treated too, along with the piping and equipment. they can be anywhere.
Wow, the eXit is super effective. Within roughly 30seconds you could tell the planaria were starting to panic. Within a few minutes, they were stringing.
Sofar so good. The acans tried to eat a few, and the mushrooms look a little pissed off. Other than that, sofar so good. I’ve siphoned out as many dead planaria as I could while doing the water change. Here’s hoping nothing is adversely affected. I’m still afraid of all that “harmful toxin release” that the package, and the internet talks about. Have 1lb of fresh carbon running now, and I filtered out the planaria that released into the water column with a filtersock on my sump input filled with some carbon also.
Everyting is in good shape this am after the treatment. The tanks looks so much brighter without these little red dudes all over my rock! Horray!
WOW Rob, that’s a lot of those suckers!
I have some stragglers…some on the rocks and glass. Nothing on the destructions about a wait period between dosing.
What I’ve noticed: The mushrooms were PISSED (red/green/and some crazy shrooms that I have no idea what they’re called), they are just now starting to open back up. The Acans also seemed to be irritated, but are beginning to open back up fully also. The other most obvious issue was the frogspawn. Its hard to describe…The frogspawn has two main heads, so it forms a Y. At the base of the Y, it lost some of the pink skin that covers the calcium skeleton of the coral. It is also now starting to grow back/heal.
I am “assuming” that all of this was due to the toxins released by the planaria as they died, as they tout the treatment itself to be very coral/fish friendly.
Thoughts on treating again? Wait? The planaria population is drastically lower then the original dose.
It’s hard to tell what is upsetting some of your corals, the exit or the planaria toxin release. you could be viligant and syphon out or turkey baster suck out the remaining worms, as soon as you see one. i once rid a tank of them forever, just by sucking the up. they tend to climb the glass and high spots on rock to get the light. so, easy targets. just keep grabbing them before they can spawn.
If that fails, then dose again after the corals recover.

Now that you :-)### the main population a 6 line will take care of the rest.
Some people say they are mean, but I had mine for over 4 years and he never bullied anyone, will have one in my new tank, I mean look how small their mouths are how much damage can they do to another fish anyway…

I have a 2" sixline. If I could catch him, I would pay you to take him!!! Killed 5 fish all bigger than him. And he does not eat flatworms to boot! Anyone interested?

It’s not uncommon to have to treat twice for this problem. I treated 2x a week apart and permanently got rid of them.
Yep, I’m gonna get some more fresh carbon, siphon all that I can, and nuke again. I’d love to have a six line, cause I think there kinda cool and affordable, but with my luck I’d get the bastard child. Perhaps looking for one at an LFS that has them in with other fish and seeing how many other “dead” fish are in that same tank would be an indicator…that and how long the sixline has been there, heh.
6 line wrasses are awesome. I bought mine when I had zoa eating nudibranchs. I siphoned and added the six line. Never dosed chemicals for them and got them to zero.
I have to agree I have had a bunch of six lines in my day. The biggest problem I has was keeping them in the tank! They would always go carpet surfing.
