Hi guys.
Will tomatoes come back if the tops are dead due to frost? Seems like we lost six plants, but I don’t want to pull them if they have a shot. They were buried about 3/4 of the height of the plants.
Thanks!
Joe

if the roots are not frozen, yes. how long in the ground? any protection?
In the ground a few days, we had a cold night the other night and it dipped to around 32. I doubt the roots are frozen, as we buried them pretty deep.
They might be stunted for a while due to the frost. I usually use grass clippings and coat the ground to hold in some of the warmth. I also use pvc rings when they are tiny and I plant early to block the cold wind and to cold a cover if the temp dips… Now remember the air was 32 but the ground stayed warmer.
So you guys would leave them and hope?
Not much else to do. Even if you buy more there is still a chance of frost and most don’t recommend planting then outside till about Mothers day (May 10th this year) to avoid frost. With the weekend coming if they look dead or start to wither pull then and replace. I have planted some this early and we had a few cold nights and they were fine.
