Too Much Actinic?

So is there a such thing as too much actinic in terms of getting my sps to grow? This is my dilemma…

Ive been trying bulb combos for a while now, and have never settled on anything. I have the 6 bar nova fixture…ive started using the ice cap 14k and 10k bulbs…but they are very pink…and i like the deep blue look…

heres what i had been running…

current actinic
ice cap 10k
current actinic
ice cap 14k
uvl super actinic
uvl aqua sun

now i have this…

uvl super actinics
current actinic
ice cap 14k
uvl super actinic
current actinic
ice cap actinic

and its super blue, and i love it…but to what the cost of this??

im not sure if ill be losing any par value adding more actinic?? ive tried doing some reading but its a little over my head…my concern is will i see a cut in growth rates of my sps by cutting out a lot of my “white” light? i was concerned about light intensity but from my view it looks to be even brighter with the new set up…

i also have a Giesemann Powerchrome Midday that i could factor into this combo a little. Could my new setup hinder my corals compared to the old?

by no means am i a light expert but i know that bluer light penetrates deeper. as far as par…a rental of our par meter would give you a chance to play with bulbs and see what if any difference it makes.

thanks martin…i believe the blue penetrates deeper also, but its not as intense as the 10-14k bulbs…

i have a majority of my stonies places middle to high…so im not too worried…ive just been getting some nice growth as of lately under the old combo, but i really didn’t like the overall pink tint the ice caps gave the tank…

by placing bluer bulbs to the front of fixture you get the bluer look of tank.

i have read that and i did try something like it, but overall i didnt notice a big difference like what i have now…

the two plugs control 3 sets of bulbs that i have come on at different times so its a little limiting in that factor also…i dont like blasting the tank first thing off with the 14k bulbs…

i may try it again tho, and place 4 actinics in the front and two K’s in the back…

the spectrum emitted by acintic lights is very important for photosynthesis.
