Upgrade 120 vs 90

Ok wife has told me she is getting new carpet downstairs and I have to move my tank for it and if I want a new one now is the time to do it. So I’m on the fence between a 120g or a 90g, I really like the 120 but it cost $200.00 more + I would need a new skimmer and two new lights, with a 90 I could use my skimmer and would only need 1 more light. So it comes down to is a 120g worth around $600 or so more then a 90g

Frank my thoughts are bigger is better, but a 90 will fit on your stand, however for a 4 foot tank a 120 is nice but, marineland has a 4 foot double deep tank thats 4 ft long 28 inches high and 3 foot deep. ::thumbsup:: Same as mine just 2 foot shorter.

Frank - I was on the same fence 2 months ago. The 90 would fit the 75’s stand, no new lights, etc. etc.

I am using the same lights I had over my 75 on my new 120 - they’re not ideal but they’re satisfactory. I’ll eventually add more but I can live with 2 LEDs over it.

I use the same skimmer I had on the 75 too - ASM G3 - I forget what it’s rated for, but it seems to be working ok on the 120.

Personally I LOVE the depth of the 120 over the 90, just lends so much more to aquascaping, design, and overall appearance of the tank.

You’re welcome to come over and check mine out before you decide.

BTW - I think you should mark it on the calendar to suggest new carpet again in 2 more years. ;D

well my skimmer is only a SRO 1000int, so anything over 90 would require an upgrade.

So looking at what I need to do a 120g
Tank $460.00
New Skimmer $400.00 - sell mine for $175.00 = $225.00
Upgrade lights $400.00
50 lbs of rock $110.00
Total = $1195.00

vs 90g
Tank $275.00
Upgrade lights would only be $200.00
50 lbs of rock $110.00
Total = 585.00

I think with only a $600.00 budget unless I can find some used good priced items I’m going to have to go the 90g route for now.

I know there are some good deals out there but some of this will need to go on the CC. I was looking to spend about $300.00 cash and $300.00 CC

I have an ASM G2 skimmer if your interested. Needs a pump but is akready gate valve moded, rated for 200 gallons, and cheap.

I have an ice cap ballast and T5 end caps too.
