Wave makers?

Okay guys tel me what you think, I just bought a natural wave strip that controls the power heads.
Now this is my question I went to pet wear house to order another hydro 1050 power head and there was a review written stating that the guys power head started acting up because of the wave maker. Saying the power head would not spin or would reverse the fans direction and he blamed it on the wave maker, what’s your thoughts ::thinking:: or have you even had the same issues? Please let me know, thanks!

Not all power heads are designed to work with wavemakers. The frequent starting and stopping has a tendency to wear them out faster. Think about if you didn’t have a wavemaker, you’d add a power head, turn it on, and turn it off maybe 3 months down the road for cleaning. A powerhead on a wavemaker can turn off/on as often as every 30 seconds (or shorter or longer).

I’ve used various Hydor Koralia pumps (K3, K4, and the new 1050 and 1400) on my wavemaker for several years now and haven’t had any ill effects as a result. Of course it could be that I use a ReefKeeper that starts them on a lower wattage then ramps up after they get started - kinda like a “soft start” function.

Well I guess the 1st thing I need to do is read my wave mak once iget home, if I’m not mistaking its by aquarium systems. I bought it at premium aquatics. But it sounds like it should be fine. Is there any info that I could give you that’d let you know if it’d be ok?

By the time you buy and retire powerheads that don’t please you, you’ll have spent more than a Vortech MP40 so just bucks up and get one now and save the headache. :BEER

I have a ocean pulse quadra model WM-02 and. I tried to use a Maxi jet with one of those power head conversions (I had the pump laying around and won the power head conv. in D.S.A.S fish club Raffle) so I wanted to put it to use and after a few times of it turning on and off the tourque keeps throwing the shaft out of place. Witch sucks cause its got a hell of alot of power. It works good with the Korilla P.H but I just have 1 of those. I also notice from time to time the control glitches once in a while it will leave one side on constant if I turn it off and on it will reset and go back to normal

But that money gets spread out over a few years and you can always sell the ones you don’t like and make a few bucks back - not all of us can blow $300-$400 on powerheads at 1 pop.

the korallias most of them have an electronic start and can be cycled constantly. with no problems i believe maxi jets are good too but not sure of others. the problem with korallias are they don’t cycle faster than 2-3 seconds due to the electronic start so actual waves aren’t made but an on off wave isn’t good because you lose a lot of flow I don’t know about vortech but tunze is an awesome pump. They’re tech support is great and they have a $2 jumper upgrade that increases flow 40% YahoO

Yea and Fish.com has maxi jet’s on clearance for $10.00
