For the first time ever i had water dripping off my lights. There is salt creep, everywhere, and it has never been this way. while there was always salt creep because everything is HOB, it was never this bad. There was liquid dripping from the light. It even fried one of the moon lights…
Am i doing something wrong, or is this normal… i cant wait for xmas and my new t-5’s to be hanged above the tank and no more HOB stuff…
so is there anything i can do to limit the amount of water…
ill try that… im hoping he will come sooner, but either way the lights wont be put on until the tank moves so basically i need to get everything set up ASAP
1st - check your temperature
2nd - you won’t have salt creep where there is still water. The salt creep doesn’t show up until the water evaporates.
3rd - you may want to consider running a small fan across the top of the tank (bottom of lights) to quickly evap off and water that accumulates
4th - check to make sure nothing has repositioned a power head to point too much towards the surface
5th - turn off the air stone
6th - please don’t tell me you actually have an air stone lOl
I’m sure atmospheric pressure and relative humidity play a big factor as well. Different atmospheric conditions in your house can lead to different levels of evaporation and what not.
salt is hydrophylic. what splashes onto the lights, will pull humidity out of the tank air and it can condense and drip. Just like when i left a bag of calcium chloride pellets open out in the garage. it collects water until it turns to fluid and runs out holes in the bag. all over the floor. Boat stores sell cartons of calcium chloride salt as a desecant to dehumidify boat cabins during winter storage. in the spring we get a carton full of slurpy salt water to toss out.
