Hey everyone!
So I’ve been gone for awhile, college kept me busy and I had to take down my 90gal, it was just too much for my parents to take care of and it crashed =[
However Im looking to get back into saltwater, with something of a manageable size that I can take with me to campus.
DF&S have a pretty nice JBJ 28gal Nano cube with the 105watt compact florescent lighting for $299
Has anyone had any experience with these? Its the perfect size for my situation, and the lighting would be enough to keep softies and some lps if I’m correct? Plus that price is with the stand included =P But I just wanted to get some other opinions before I buy it.
No hands on experience with a prebuilt nano at all. All i know is 90% of prebuilts a year or so ago, people would just retrofit and modify and now that you can buy tanks made at that size… It really depends on what you want to keep I suppose. Anyways just wanted to say welcome back. Hopefully someone with experience will chime in.
I have one with a 150w mh and 2 18w pcs, i think it’s great setup, it has 2 downfalls In my opinion 1 heat, but this may not be a problem for you since yours will be pcs, and 2 the the skimmer, it works, but not well, I plan on upgrading it soon, in the end I love the tank and if I had to do it all over again I would Still get it.
Hey! RBTA, good to see you back, for a while, before you go back again, for a few more years. if that makes any sense. yeah, any ole tank will do for a softies tank. they are more tolerant of stuff in the water. seems to me, most any of those sellf contained nanos are pretty good for something like that. and dont forget to throw in a handfull of pepermint shrimp too. fun to watch and they clean up the leftover food. and they dont cost very much. i’m herd building again too, myself. Is school far far away this year? ive got some volunteer soft corals and GSP if you like to help start it off. they just keep growing. say when you need some. easy, low maintenance bright stuff that wont keep you from studying. but still look good.
Thanks for the replies everyone! I went ahead and got the tank. School isnt far away for me, still going to UD. But I haven’t had much free time in awhile and I rarely ever get a chance to make it home. I just got done training so this is the first time Im on my computer in awhile haha. So the tank should be here monday and I’m going to start setting it up this week.
And thanks for the offers, I’ll e more than willing to take some coral off of your hands =]
So I got the tank. Assemble the stand. Fill the tank with water. And of course, the back filter compartment part of the tank is leaking. I emptied that back part of the tank, sent DFS an email about what happened, and going to bed. Of course everything has to happen an midnight when I have a full day of classes starting at 8am haha. Just my luck.
Damn dude that sucks. One of the girls on the forum got a tank from Doctors Foster and Smith and had the same thing happen. I suppose one of the things you pay for at LFS is that they don’t have morons that check the tanks around in boxes before they get to you and you get to see the product before you buy.
Sucks this happened though. Send me a PM once you get the tank up and cycled.
oh well, you can either send it back or fix it. just let us know when you are ready for some stuff for the tank after its fixed. Ive got some ground cover for you.
I went home today to grab some supplies for the new tank and I found a letter in the mail from DFS, I was kinda confused as to what it could be, but when I opened it up it was a gift certificate exclusively for liveaquaria! So on top of replacing the tank for free, no shipping charges, no charge to ship the broken tank back, they give me a credit for liveaquaria :BEER
Yes, there are a lot of pretty decent outfits on the internet. and they certainly are one. hope it makes up for the inconvenience. let me know when you need some ground cover ivy and stuff for the new tank.
Got you covered, so to speak.
