Either Aptasia, or Curly-Q anemones (which are also aptasia but cooler looking)
They are a pest you do not want them in your tank. not even 1.
Do they sting? The are right next to the kenya trees that arent doing good.
will aptasia x kill them ?
Yes they sting. Probably are affecting your kenya trees.
Aptasia X will kill them if administered properly. Some other methods are:
Aptasia Zapper - like someone here just built and posted, I suggest making friends
Kalk Paste - make a solution of Ms. Wages pickling lime and rodi water, you’ll want a thick paste. Turn off the power heads and completly encase the aptasia in it - the pH is extremely high and will “nuke” the aptasia. Let sit for 20-30 min before turning flow back on. (this is my preferred method)
Inject them with vinegar and/or boiling water - requires a hypodermic needle and a steady hand.
The important part is to make sure you completely kill it, if any part of the anemone remains it will reproduce and do so quickly.
Thanks for you help! I will get to killing them!!!
Its looks like green algae. The regularly changing of water would help to
reduce such problems. The proper lighting is also necessary for dealing
with algae.
it definitely wasnt green algae. It definitely was aptasia. I have been killing them and still getting more popping up. Just killed about 10 more the other night.
How are you killing them?
with aptasia x
Cool does it work well? When I had them I used a kalkwasser paste but it was a pain. In case I get them again I want to be able to fight them.
seems to be working good for me. now if i could just get them under control
Try a Couple peppermint shrimp they’ll eat them up if they’re small
oh good! I was looking for a reason to buy a couple of shrimp ;D I take it they will get along just fine with the coral banded.
Just an update:
I put a few peppermint shrimp in my tank (although I never see them ) and I havent seen any aptasia in awhile.
Thanks Tim for the advice!!!
awesome glad they worked!
Peppermint shrimp don’t come out much until the lights go out. If you have moon lights (or dim ambient room lighting) you can see them craw around. I thought mine was dead for a while until checking on something in the night, there he was, HUGE!!!
Yeah I put them in there and then didnt see them for about 2 weeks. One night I saw one and he doubled in size just in two weeks. I have 3 peppermint, one camel and one coral banded. The coral banded is always out. He is the king of the tank. Have never seen the camel and only seen one of the peppermint. Have been seeing it a lot here recently. Not sure if its the same one every time or not.
