what is this on a new clam

he’s in qt. i d help needed. at first i thought they were starfish arms, but the side parts, the hairy things visible in the 1st pic, seems to rule that out

more contrast, worse picture

it also has some pest nems, but i will kalk paste those bstrds

i got a couple of those in my LR idk what is either .

Are you sure it isn’t a white serpent star? I know my stepmoms tank actually has a white serpent star in it, looks somewhat similar to that, but I haven’t got a real good look at it yet like the pic you have.

Looks like serpent star legs Paul.

You could always bring it up and put it in my frag tank I'll take GOOD care of it ;D

Why would the harry things rule it out? Those are sea stars. Ask Fish Bowl to show you a brittle star the next time you are in. In general the hobby calls sea stars brittle or serpent stars. Usually smooth legs = serpent stars. Perhaps you’re just more used to serpent stars and never looked closely at the brittles.

Even the ones that appear smooth from a distance have some of those, “hairs”.

There are several different types of mini stars that reproduce in our tanks. I’ve found those one often times loses out to the darker bigger serpant stars. Not sure why.

thew stripes said star, but i have never seen that hairy aspect of small stars before. man i am happy about that, thanx a million.
bill i’d be glad to bring it over for you, but it’s just too late and i am too sleepy yawn! otherwise, for sure, you could have it. maybe i’ll bring it to the meeting next wednesday at armco and you can meet me there at 6 a.m.

I dunno I’m with Bill on this one…those could be super bad!! Better put it in my tank for safe keeping for the next few years… lOl ::thumbsup:: ::rofl::
