okay so i used the table shrimp inorder to cycle my 90 gallon tank and well i tested the water today and here are the results
salinty:1.025
temp: 80*
ammonia: 0
nitrate:160
nitrite:5
ph: 8.4
with the ammonia being back down to zero should i just remove the shrimp now? and than will the nitrate and nitrite levels clear themselves out with a water change so i could possibly get fish in there soon? probably getting some lights thisweekend a 48in oddessey light system and will eventally retro it to t5’s instead of pc’s
I believe that once there was ammonia you couldve took the shrimp out…youve started the cycle so i dont see why not…your nitrates are blood red, no fish till that and the nitrite are down.
yeah i know that i cant add fish ive been slacking on checking the levels been 2 busy with everything else!
You have some kind of bio filtration and PHs in there right?
I’d say take it out, throw some lights on and look at the algae you can grow
my filtration is an emperor 400 and a refigium if that counts as filtration at all :-p and 1 korila 3 in there
Take it out.
Ill give you a dollar if you eat that shrimp
Man the pumping of the stomach should eb worth more then a dollar.
$2!
well i do love shrimp i can throw some oldbay on it… haha jk i dont think i love shrimp that much… i would prob be hugging the toilet all night long :~S
Ok if he is going to hug the toilet and if he takes a picture I will add $5
Up to $7!
I’ll bump it to $10 if he videos it  :~S
Seriously though, take the shrimp out. Once the Nitrites hit zero start your water changes to get the trates to zero as well then it will be ok to begin adding fish, just add slowly, no more then 2 small per week.
Your fuge absolutely counts as filtration, in fact your fuge will probably make up the bulk of your filtration.
$11 if he sends the poor shrimp to nitrate detox therapy. I only though you got high nitrates from too much red wine?
Yes, start doing water changes, add nitrosoma/nitrobacter bacteria booster, and bump up the lighting and circulation in your fuge to eat the rest of the nitrates. Brighter lights bump photosynthesis and circulation increases the rate of nitrate uptake by the macro algae and gas echange.
well i do have a light down on my fuge i keep it on 24/7 should i? it just looks like a grow light that could be used with reptiles and all its in a clam lamp
i guess it would depend on what u plan on putting in the fuge as far as 24/7 light…because some algaes will go asexual…although i have no clue what that means, lol…
someone can probley add a little more info to that…
i was reading on 3reef.com how clamp on lights with a certain bulb are far more effective for growth and lowers cost…i used a similar clamp on light, and the arm began to rust after about 6 months…so u might wanna check the metal?

The standard home depot has a aluminum housing for $5 and a CPF grow bulb with a light spectrum around 6500k
how much wattage do those lights use?
18 watts equuiv to 75 watt iridescent
