Where would it land?

When a screen pops off an old Hydor power head in the tank where does it land? Answer depends on who is looking at the tank. If the owner of a big legal firm is standing in front of his tank it sits right in the middle of the tank on top of his prized anemone. If the aquarium tech is standing in front of the tank…

Zoomed in behind the mag float:

It floats behind the tallest stack of rocks in an impossible to reach position. Of course just barely in view, so you can see it, but not reach it. This tank is ~30". BTW this tank is always full of water.(water changes done remotely in a basement) Also it can’t be accessed from this side of the tank. You have to reach from behind the tank with waves randomly kicking up in your face, while you’re standing on a ladder.

Glad the new Hydor pumps don’t have this screen.

can always use a strand of solid wire bent in shape and with hook on end to retrieve have done it before

I forget exactly what tool I used, but I used something bent to try to grab it. Knocked it around for a little bit using the reflection to see what I was doing. Hard to coordinate what you want to do in a reflection though… Ended up pushing it in deeper. I had decided to give up and take a break and either the current or a fish moved it out in the open and I snagged it up quick.

you can use a parts picker. like mechanics use to retrieve a nut or bolt that dropped and wedged somewhere in the engine compartment you can’t get a hand into. it has three little claws you can open and close on a flexible spring shaft. .

just degrease it before you go.

or maybe use a big powerhead to blow it out front. worth a try too.
