Things are starting to look good, or at least better, in my tank. (It’s about time!) That is besides the clove polyps not opening. I have not moved them and water quality has improved since they were last open about 10 days ago. A few (maybe 6) will open at times, but mostly they all stay shut. It was first the larger colony then later the frag - about 5 heads would not open. Water parameters are as follows: temp 79.2 PH 8.08, alk 3.42 meq/l (or 9.6dkh), no ammonia or nitrite, nitrate 10, mag 1290 (just dosed to increase to 1310), cal 440. The only change that I can think of is cleaning the canister filter and replacing the GAC and adding Seachem Purigen. There is a pocilipora about 5 inches away, could this really be causing this? I am finding it hard to get stable real estate for my corals and dont want to have to move either the poci or the clove (4"X5") since it is a small tank. The frag rack is pretty full and will not hold the clove. any suggestions before shuffling things around? ::
Oops i forgot salinity- 1.026 and ORP is 385
Other questions:
Has anyone out there used nitrate absorbing pads or the ALGONE product? What results did you have?
Hi Scot, i dont think the Pocci will harm the clove without really touching it, and even then i’m not sure which one would win the battle. could be the other way around. or a joint suicide pact,. but neither are overly aggressive. as far as I know. I too use purigen in my filter, and my orange clove polyps seem fine. but they do from time to time shrink and close up. Why? Nobody knows!
