Ok, so I was just browsing and ran across this one.
Someone HAS to get one of those and frag it. That is crazy.

that is pretty sweet… dunno that I would pay $60 for it though…
Mac has been getting in some CRAZY mushrooms for somewhere. Someone must have made a request for some different mushrooms and he is hunting them down. Last time I asked for sponges it took him two weeks to post 6 different species of sponge on his site.
Sadly I bought one of Mac’s really green discoma mushrooms and it went wondering and disapeared. I think it finally floated into a power head.
I agree - very cool - but would not spend $60 on it.
If you want blue shrooms I have a few growing in the frag tank, as soon as they’re ready you can have one. They are a real vibrant solid blue, think they came from Dr. Mac originally.
We have some purples, greens, reds and the like, but no blues yet. Those ones were just crazy looking… I dont think I have ever seen any that bright.
That one is way different then any mushroom I have seen
Looks like a chunk of big blue cauliflower.
Looks like a bright blue morph of Rhodactis inchoata.
That could be the fist COTM if you know what i mean
Nah, I have a better idea.

How do they come up with the scientific names for these things? I’m picturing a guy bouncing a tennis ball on the keyboard.
That explains the spelling of some of the names
Oh come on guys, you know if you ask a question I’ll have to answer. They use Latin, a dead language, so that the meaning of the word does not change in time and the language isn’t biased to one country or area. If they used a language which is currently being used what a word means now may change in 20 years. “Bad†may no longer be negative, but something that is positive. A “Cool†coral 30 years ago might have been something found in colder waters while today it would mean something likable.
Scientists and anyone serious about corals uses these Latin names when ever possible so that people from all countries know what we are exactly what we are referring to. If you are cool with common names, I’ll sell you some “Blue Xenia” for $100 bucks that isn’t the desirable Cespitularia, but is in fact Xenia elongata under blue lights.(can also be a pest in some tanks and is only worth a fraction of the price)
Also if you attempted to find a mate for a fish in you’re tank and you only knew it under the name “skunk clownfish†then you might not understand why you found a fish with different colors when you went to an LFS who claimed to have that type of clowns. If you bought that “skunk clownfish†and if they did ever mate you may not understand why you were unable to use the same meathods of rearing that Ken used to raise the offspring. The two species may not be able to produce viable offspring and the planktons Ken fed his fish may not work for yours. (there are at least 3 species of “skunk clownfish†Amphiprion perideraion, Amphiprion akallopisos, Amphiprion sandaracinos which are found in different parts of the world and Ken’s fish are even more distantly related)
Why do I feel like I have been typing for three days straight.

Yet another joke lofted gently in to the evening breeze only to be obliterated by shoulder fired snot rocket.
