Zoanthid ID thread

Id thread for zoanthids
Sites with good pictures to try and ID first
http://www.coralpedia.com/index.php?module=Gallery2&g2_itemId=15

These are the zoanthids, Paly’s I have not found id’s for.

The top zoa’s are the armor of gods but the zoas in the bottom of the pic I can not find a id for.

I know the purple deaths, inside outs(green zoa),I think the pinks are coco pink zoa’s, the orange ones on the plug almost look like orange delights? the rest I have no clue.

The orange center zoas look like reverse gorilla nipples but have a green ring that goes around the orange some, green inside outs with a speckle morph from the lighting I think? whammin watermelons, lunar eclipse?

I dunno, but they all look awesome ::thumbsup::

and “reverse gorilla nipples” are u kidding me? , havent heard that one before, but it makes me want to buy some, just so i can tell people the name when they ask “oooh what are those” ::rofl::

Ops, forgot to put a picture to the reverse gorilla nipples. If you look on Coralpedia it is similar but they dont have the odd shaped dark green ring around the the orange at all… Maybe its a morph? When I bought them I was told ECA was selling them for a pretty good amount of change along with some of the other zoa frags I have.

I woke up this morning and got a chuckle outta this again ::rofl::

Can’t wait until the LFS’s open today… I’m gonna start calling " hi… uhh, do you have reverse gorilla nipple’s"

LOCO<

HaHa

Anyone have any idea on these id’s

I don’t believe there are any avid zoanthid collectors in the club any more. Mike from ASR has a really good handle on the different zoanthid and palythoa types if you ever get a chance to speak with him in the store, but you’ll have to bring him pictures as he is really slow to respond to emails typically.

I don’t believe you have Nuclear Greens palys, whammin watermelon zoanthids, or Tubs blues, yet. If your getting into collecting zoanthids I would try to add those three as they are all beautiful and unique. Purple hornets are another pretty sweet one, but I believe still fairly uncommon and expensive.

Scratch that can you take the last photo again with the day lights on or a flash?(the last photo didn’t load I had to refresh to see it) You may have whammin watermellons on the far left there, but hard to see. If you do have them I would certainly be interested in a frag. They are one of my girlfriends favorites.

ASR? Those are wammin watermelon’s. All of the zoa’s on that rock started from frag plugs I drilled holes in the rock to let them grow out and the greens just so fast at growing everything else on the rock is fairly slow. I hav had those frags since ECA burned down.

I do not have any blues I do have one with a blue ring in the center with a purple secondary ring and green tentacles or whatever they call the frilly edge, I got that one from you just forgot to get it in the picture and it took a few days to open up.

What store is ASR? I would like to get some more zoa’s eventually and test the waters fragging mine. I was just going over some old pictures today and just could not believe how much they have spread since I got them, when they were not even covering the whole frag plug.

Gordonius the frags I got from you are doing great. I am going to have to find a rock to grow them out on soon.

Sorry I didn’t realized I hadn’t responded. Aquarium Science and Research? I believe. It is the old TFZ The Frazer Zoo. http://delreefclub.org/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=28&topic=5872.0

Should be at the top of the LFS list and sponsor list, but they haven’t been updated in a while.

Glad to hear the frags from me are doing well. All of your animals in the pictures atop look really healthy. Glad some of the animals that grew up here made it there.

Thanks for the info. I will prob try and make a trip up there within the week or so. Maybe today if I can convince the woman. She wants to try and put our clown fish in a separate tank to breed them since we are on a 2nd batch in 6 days after the last batch hatched and the batch is double to triple the amount of eggs as the first. <— My bargaining chip to go to the fish store hahahaha

you need to get the info on breading clownfish, no need to seperate the clowns you will need something for the fry, Jason posted some info about it here and more on ReefGeeks and Barb has some videos out there on you tube about it also.

I have found plenty of sites and books regarding clown fish breeding. I am scared about to much current in my tanks since I do not know when they will hatch. First batch hatched in 8 days sometime over night past an hour after lights off. I don’t have everything to setup a fry tank. So far I only have the air pump, 10g tank, light, live phyto. No rotifiers or sponge for the air filter. I will keep progress in my tank thread as things progress if we do decide to give it a good ole try.

The square plug at the top of the pic are definite whammin’ watermelons. The ones on the bottom are a mystery from DPA, they are much more pink than the whammin’ watermelons and have a different colored skirt, but otherwise look similar.

At the top of this pic are mean greens? that we got from saltcreep, they have a dark blue center dot. Below that, from left to right are green dragoneyes, JF fruit loops, and whammin’ watermelons. Below the fruit loops are AOG palys, and below the palys are those mystery pink zoas.

How is the color in the JF fruitloops? I have thought about getting them before along with many other variations just have not gotten that far yet.

Whammin watermelons color brightness/deepness changes depending on light. Under t5’s mine get really beautiful red and purple and mh the color gets a little bland.

I think the Fruit Loops are obscene in color. Bright yellow around the blue/grey mouth with the beautiful red skirts… It’s just a classy piece. My tank has 4 T5’s and 6 3w royal blue LEDs. They light up like a highlighter!
It’s really hard to describe the color of my whammin’ watermelons… green, pink/purple. Whatever color they are showing, they always glow.

I might as well ask while I’m hear, does anyone have Rasta’s or True Rastas? I’d be willing to trade frags.

PM me if anyone is interested, I don’t want to jack this post or anything.

I would like to get some Rasta’s also if someone was willing to trade

Are you planning on fragging the fruitloops anytime soon? If so would you do trade or just cash?

I might bring you some tomorrow when I come over there mixed with a couple other I threw on a plug. I just did my first frag attempt on zoa’s. They already opened up this morning. I got a laugh out of reading your statement again so I gotta bring some LOL…
