Any lizard keepers out there?

Sounds like you’re off to a great start. I used a false bottom (eggcrate) when I put my small one together. I was hoping to get to self sustaining, but my choice of frog vendors wasn’t the greatest and they all passed. Big Eye’s are more of a cool weather frog, so I wanted to try them, but I’ve heard a lot of horror stories after the fact. The springtails are a good idea, everytime I’ve tried them, I always get a lot of escapees. Those things jump like four feet. Really weird little bug. But cool.

I plan to keep frogs that will thrive in identical conditions to make my husbandry tasks easier. Although i will build several vivs at once to save time and money, they will all share drainage, lighting, misting, etc. RETF’s and most PDF will thrive with high humidity and temps in the high 70’s which is easy for me to keep year round without much effort. From what ive read, the Vietnamese Mossy Frog does best with temps slightly cooler and a water feature which i wanted to avoid but will probably do just because these guys are so amazing. Im hoping to start construction within a couple of weeks and ill post some pics. I want to get them planted soon and give them time to grow in and watch parameters before buying any frogs. Also, if i decide to do mailorder i think fall temps is ideal for shipping any live animals.

btw, a petco had a baby redtail today and the kid actually let my son and i handle it. the thing was amazingly docile, almost to the point of being friendly. i think you guys have me convinced to start with the RTB as our first big snake.

The Havre de Grace show usually has a ton of darts/frogs, but a lot are recent imports so buyer beware.

Awesome. I think that’s a great (big) starter.

Taiwan Beauty for adoption…

rtb’s can amazingly nice but make sure u get a columbian red tail boa alot of people try to sell central american redtail boas but there simply not as good looking and haverde grace is a great place for that and they do normally have 1 or 2 tables selling tree frogs… plants… poison dart frogs… stuff like that 2  breeder prices 2

I think that the coloration of central american boas is beautiful, just not as bright. They have a nice deep tan/brown though.

Im pretty sure we’re still game for a RTB but our “reptile room” keeps shrinking and the frogs are coming first. I wanted to get a start this summer but ended up putting a 48" X 24" SPS frag tank in the room instead. I promised my son the frogs for Xmas so it should be done by then. Tentatively im shooting for one large vertical vivarium instead of mutiple tanks. Right now im considering a 3’ X 3’ X 8’ planted viv with RETFs and PDFs with the possiblity of an ETB down the road. The only problem is that after the frog viv i wont have much horizontal space left and we might have to hold off on the RTB because of space. Ill have to see what i can come up with after the viv is built.
