I dont have a good picture to post but he is hairy and and a dusty color. I think he is bad.
I saw this weekend some dead blue legs from my hermit crab on the live sand. I was wondering what was going on. Now I know. Do you think i am right? How do I catch this guy?
If you look in tatoo’s thread on a gorrilla crab infestation I posted a reply on how to catch crabs with a simple homade trap. It make take a try or two, but if its done right there isnt much that trap wont catch.

Ok here we go again.
The crab in the pic appears to be an Emerald Crab which should not be killing things in the tank. I guess if anything gets hungry enough it may lead to predatory instinct, but generally the mithrax crabs are pretty civiclized. I will let other people chime in, but I think that crab is not the source of the problems… I would bet it is more along the lines of the blue legs fighting over shells rather than the emerald killing things…

It looks to me like an emerald crab as well. My guess would be that one or 2 of your hermits shed and you are seeing the shed exoskeleton.
Oh ok. It just looks different from my other emerald crabs. It also has hairy legs.
I agree. probably not the crab, but hermits molting as the grow. Shrimp will do the same thing too. Can’t tell you how many times I woke up to find my poor dead shrimp at the bottom of the tank only to see it cruising the rocks 2 hours later.
I had so many hermits shed at one time it looked like a little kermit masacar. Almost flushed my puffer until I realized what it was.
Could be an emerald, could be not. There are approximately 1.21 jigagillion crabs that all look like that one. Keep an eye on 'em, and if he gets meaner, give him to Jon. >LOL<

I believe its a emerald crab. The ones I have in my tank have hairy shells as well as hairy legs so that how I know its not a emerald

Lmao I believe its a emerald crab. The crab’s I’m having problems with have hairy shells as well they have hairy legs and claws. Meaning the crabs I have are different. I guess I typed it to confusing. I’m for sure illiterate probaly didn’t even spell that right. I can count money tho and tattoo, draw, airbrush, sculpt, glass blowing , and a ton of other artsy stuff but I can’t spell for @#$%
