Sorry to hear that ,Paul. It was doing so good ??? :-("
man how big was that…
big. said 6 inches, but these are really heavy and footbally, so it seemed much bigger.
That stinks! I’m soo sorry to hear. It looked beautiful to in that first image. Sure it’s 100% gone?(I don’t know how far they can go down hill and come back)
Oh it’s gone Jon, there alot bigger then that and still dead.
That sucks Paul. Sorry to hear.
sorry to hear that paul
Sorry to see that Paul.
yeah, thanks, everyone.
there was no shipping to me, so that kinda stress doesn’t count. no nipping, acclimated right, etc. no other clams look bad. params are fine. and reputable dealer [dr mac].
it may be that these wild-caught big clams have a difficult time adjusting, since a few other people have lost them in a 2 week period.
thinking about buying one for yrself?
i’d wait!
What are you going to do with the shell

i am saving it for the ants to clean out completely, until it’s as bare as a certain person’s head. then ???
wanna buy it? i’ll let it go for only 1/2 of the $200 it cost me.
Sorry to hear about your loss. On the bright side it’s a good excuse to drink. :BEER
BoNg
i wasn’t aware that we need an excuse!
i’ve purchased many clams directly harvested from the ocean and they have all done fine.
the first picture posted doesn’t seem like a clam that is doing well.
mr x
that shot shows its mantle retreating fr sure, but i only see it now. he never had a full extension, and seemed like that at dr macs, so i probably incorrectly assumed he was fine that way. all 5 of the clams in his container there looked about the same. yet when i wrote them, they said the others were all doing fine.
none of my other regular clams are in trouble.
I’m pretty sure this type of thing isn’t all that rare. I recall a post in the past about a similar situation where a clam went from seemingly healthy to rapidly dying shortly after purchase. Chris mentioned a couple of things that could cause this type of things, and if my memory serves, there aren’t a lot of outward signs for the casual hobbyist to notice. Maybe Chris will jump on and add to this.
