Thanks Jason

I raised the light 13 inches off the surfaced the pics I sent you were of the light with the legs sitting on top of the tank.

How deep is that tank? I’m about 10" up,30 " deep with acros 6"from bottom. Does hqi put out the same light as mogul mh? Obviously it’s a smaller light so it’s spread is less. But is the out put the same?

Im actually 15 inches off the water. Light spread has to do with your reflector a 250 watt bulb is the same on hqi or moguls. Mine is the same size as your s except you have the glass surround the lamp mine is just the lamp itself thats why HQI’s half to have the shielding glass or it will fry everything with the UV light that they give off.

Well the tank is lit very well with the bulb and the height. My tank is 28 inches deep but its 3 feet front to back and its all lit pretty nice.
I will say this I was pretty hasty selling my old metal halide fixtures . I'm not selling my LED's at least not right now. Got a 40 breeder going up for quarantine , and gonna redo the frag tank set up some.

I know everyone loves there LED's but I personally just have better luck with the old technology and I can see my corals responding to them already.

I may finally build my 10 watt led strip but add the 100 watt chips and alternate the halides and the chips through out the day and still have my LED tubes that still work perfect that I'm running.

IMO, halides are the greatest for look and growth, nothing beats them. LED’s are great too, I’m running them currently on my 90 and am happy with them. Halides are basically plug & play, there’s a definite learning curve with LED.

Your tank looks great!

I forget the manufacturer, but I recall a story where they were doing promo pics of a new HQI fixture and decided to take the glass shielding off to get better pictures. They said with less than an hour of taking the pictures the photographer had a bad sunburn.

Thanks I thought the glass was for splash.

Nope. HQI bulbs need a UV shield (that’s what the glass in the pendants are for). Single ended halide bulbs don’t need an additional shield, it’s built in to the bulb.

Although - splash protection is a great thing. I’ve never run halides exposed to salt creep or splash or anything, always had a glass shield regardless.

OK

New bulbs are in , angry bristletooth tang has been removed and rock work has been redone mainly cause the fish was a pita to get out #@$^
New aquascaping I’m diggin little better anyway. Got a couple of more corals to add but mostly everything is back in.

Looks great bill, i HAVE to get up to see this in person some time. I may be tearing apart my tank to rid a bristle tooth myself, he nearly killed a new addition a few days ago.

Great work!!

I feel your pain Ive lost several wrasses and 2 gobis from him chasing them out.

I wanted to add some new fish but was afraid to. I'm good now .

Good luck with getting yours out.
