Said i’d never try again, lost two in the past, but i’m trying one last time… (sound familiar houndsbay?)
I’d been reading that the smaller ones adapt better, and since i didn’t grab any frags at the swap verdict_in i decided to get a new fish.
This one was eating frozen mysis in the tank at dpa YahoO Its about 2 1/2’’ , and is getting along well with the tangs in my tank. It ate frozen mysis, live brine, and several diff chunks of food from KB’s reef formula last night!
I’m not taking any pics or video yet, the glare from the lens always spooks the new guys a bit. Besides, its doing great so far, and i dont want to push my luck!
It just pigged out, so I got a few pics. It didn’t care about the camera being there. I actually tried to wipe some salt off the glass and it was following my finger. I’ll try to get a video of it eating later. Thats all for now, its beautiful “outside”
They look beautiful! GolfC
I hope that it does well in your tank. Unfortunately for me, I tried to keep one a few months ago. It was eating and doing great at the store, but when I brought it home he kept to himself and didn’t eat. I tried mysis, cyclopeeze, even pellets . . . he didn’t make it. Poor Scooter. :-("
Its doing great, and eating anything frozen i put in the tank (mysis and reef blends) and of course live brine. It comes right up to the glass with the rest of the pigs, and is begging for food already also GolfC.
It hasn’t picked at coral or clams yet that i’ve seen, or seen evidence of. It does constantly move around the tank hunting and nipping into rock crevices.
I can’t stop watching it, i’m so happy to finally have one that’s eating… it appears to be doing great, i hope i can keep it fat and happy.
Bill, does yours eat anything besides frozen? any pellets or flake? if so what kind… abcd
last night i noticed it aggressively eating at something on the rocks, took a closer look and WOW… its eating the hell outta my plague of green little anemones! I knew they were famous for munching aptasia, but i haven’t really been too sure what these little nems are… but they must taste like aptasia becaus he’s really putting a hurt on them… its taken tentacles off of at least 50…
gotta love a fish thats beautiful, and hard working ::
Cool. I guess the tenticles taste better than the body once it eats all of them then I bet it will eat the whole thing. It like the salmon run when there are so many salmon the bears just eat the eggs. That’s great though. It’s so cool when something works out the way you want it.

Soon as it takes one bite the whole little anemone disappears into the rock for several minutes, one tentacle at a time i guess!
I’m glad its working out also, good job spotting it for me in DPA Tim. I owe you some pop tarts :BEER

Envious doesn’t even begin to describe it. haha [/quote]
I know what you mean for sure… I’ve been jealous of anyone who’s had one for a long time now.
I’m past the " gee i hope i dont wake up and find it dead" because its eating and acting so well, but a part of me is still nervous because of the track record of survivability for these fish.
It seems from what i’ve read that once they’re eating good their a fairly hardy fish, but it still seems too good to be true…
Those are some great pictures. You should email them to TFP for the next saltwater photo contest I think you could win.
I would love one of them but chancing it nipping at the clams or other corals is just not worth it to me. Maybe one day I will have a fish only tank (where is the dreaming emoticon at?).

I haven’t heard this before about their poor track record in the aquarium, but then, I haven’t researched them at all. Is there any particular reason they tend to be so difficult?

Thanks Jeff… haha, that’ll be my luck… finally have one doing good so it’ll probably eat my clams verdict_in
but from what i’ve read they’re a nice addition to a descent size reef tank, and if they do any damage its just a nip here and there.

they’re notorious for being one of those fish that never take to captivity and starve to death.

I love this fish even more now!

I’m jealous I have the same anemones. I wish I was brave enough to try a copperband, I’m affraid it would eat my clams. What else can they potentially pick on?
I have seen probably 40 or so of these fish imported locally and heard of one surviving. The one that survived was reported to be a bully to all of it’s tank mates.(I never saw it in person, but that is what I was told by a woman who reported she had one doing well)
This is one of those animals I wish I saw less of in LFS, but some stores seem to bring them in time after time.
