Dr Mac's

Swung in today, a bunch of nice stuff! Unfortunately, I was on my lunch break and couldn’t buy. A couple beautiful Har. tusks.

He always has nice things!

im looking foward to stocking my new 75g with some of his finer things. :BEER

anybody see the price of one of his corals, I think it was a “hand - picked” coral, show piece. It is listed at $1299.99 WOW!!! >LOCO<

Were they aussie? Happen to remember the price/size?

Not positive on the aussie vs indian thing, but they were $89, about five inches. Really beautiful fish.

The piece I was talking about is not listed anymore, maybe someone bought it. He does have a golden chalice for only…$999.99 still available. LOL

I want to meet the person that has 1300 dollars to spend on one coral.

they lowered prices a bit this week i think.

Just a heads up on Dr macs…I bought a couple of fish off him during the last year or so - all of which were infected with a nasty ectoparasite that took months and months of various treatments to get rid of…

I still dont know what it was …but it appears that his fish system is infected with it…I will not buy any more fish there for a long time…

i dunno man… >LOCO< his stuff has always looked good to me. (this coming from another lfs)

+1

Having read mutiple posts of Hottuna’s over the years on this board and the orignal DRC forum he rarely has anything complimentary to say. I wont try to quote him, but in a previous thread on RC he compares our LFS to very high end mega LFSs on the eastcoast. If you use stores like that as your base for comparison, many LFS will end up looking badly. His comments should be taking with a grain of salt, especially if your not familiar with his rhetoric. Ironically enough, Dr. Macs facility is conisdered by many people in the hobby as one of the premiere LFS for coral on the eastcoast.

What do you know, LogansDaddy, you only have seven posts! heheh

I have purchased corals and fish from Dr Mac in the past and I’ve seen nothing but excellent results and great customer service.

What do you know

not much! ;D

Back to the topic, i would guess by your impression that they were Aussie tusks! The Aussie is identical to tusks collected elswhere as far as patterning and colors, the main different is the color intensity. Tusks collected from Australia have very vibrant, reflective colors akin to those on some large angels, where the others tend to be much more drab. I will be in the market for a tusk very shortly, its been one of my must owns for many years but ive never had the proper tank for one.

speaking of… define a “proper tank” for one please… i have read a million articles on tusks in general, and almost exactly 50% say they r passive/community (but will eat small shrimp and such) and the other half claim they r aggressive and should be kept with only similar attitude fish

From what i have read they are not very aggressive and would do perfectly fine in a community tank. Keep in mind there are glaring exceptions to every rule. The would not make good candidates for the average reefer simply because of their size and appetite. I would imagine that a large amount of the 50% that consider the tusk to be agressive have put them in small reef tanks. A “proper tank” for a tusk, as i define it, is the 265g semi-agressive community FOWLR tank that im currently setting up.

LOGAN"S DADDY …are you going to be at the dr mac’s trip the club is making?
me and my rhetoric would love to meet you there…how bout it ??? :-)lol

me and my rhetoric would love to meet you there......how bout it ?

Im not sure how to take that comment, but either way, im sure you wouldnt enjoy it as much as you might think.

Anyhow, i wont be going. Although i disagree with your earlier post and feel that Dr. Mac’s is a very reputable LFS, personally i dont hold them in high regard for different reasons. With that said, for me, its just not worth the drive.

any chance to expand on that? since this would be my first time there, is this negativity any cause for a customer’s concern? are there any reasons I should be aware of before going, besides some high prices?
just wondering.

since I moved to delaware 3 yrs ago from New york …I have really enjoyed meeting new people here in delaware that enjoy the same hobby…I have done some trades and even some sales with members of this forum and the one on r/c…everyone I met so far was wonderful to deal with and I made a couple new friends in the process…but unfortunately there is one garbage spewing trouble maker that wants to defame my character even though he doesn’t know me from a hole in the wall…
from what i’ve seen of the good people on this forum -this is the exception -not the rule…
to all others : in my prior post I just wanted to warn everyone of a potential virulent disease which may be lingering in DR Macs fish system…my intention was to let everyone know so they could take proper precautions and seriously qt any fish they might buy there…I will not buy fish form Dr Mac for a while until that disease burns out or runs its course from his system…I personally think the facility is top shelf -and after several long conversations with DR Mac himself-He is too !!!
