Hanging Frag Rack

Alright … it ain’t special, but I did it.

I don’t have a lot of room, so this had to go into (for now) my display tank. I didn’t like the idea of a standing rack, so I figured I’d try to hang it. And eggcrate seemed ideal. So here are the parts I cut out to start. No fancy measurements, just eyeballed:

A few plastic wire-ties to tie it all together and I got this:

NOw, maybe I’ll get around to cleaning the glass … lol

I was told that a humidity above 60% on a constant basis will grow mold. I would try to keep your leve at or below 60%. The DH I purchased tells you what the humidity level is.

i as well have been making one for my tank waiting for black egg crate to finish. i used 1/2 cpvc tubing and fittings to make a hang on rack. i will post pics sunday nite. will also bring into next meeting to show and let others get ideas from.

I am not too sure but I was also told if you have windows to keep the blinds up and open the windows/doors and that will help.

i made two of these to keep acros closer to my lights and they started to grow a little algae…anyone else have a problem with this?? would black egg crate be the remedy??

If your growing algea on your acros you probably have other issues. I would suggest checking the amount of flow you have across the acros and your nitrate and phosphate levels.

algaes not growing on the macros…its growing on the egg crate a little, hence, would black egg crate solve the problem?? its the same sort of algae you would scrap off the glass every day or soo (speaking for myself)

IDK. Until recently ive always used white with no problems. The only thing that would grow on the eggcrate would be coraline. If you want to make a black one, ive got some scrap black eggcrate lying around that you can have.

Nice Rack lOl

:BUMP)

Ok. Were at a dead draw with a grand total of 9 votes. Does this mean that only 9 people are interested in DIY topics? or does this mean only 9 people are coming to the next meeting?

Come on people, vote! If you dont want to see any of the three, post and let us know what you are interested in. If its feesible i can add it to the poll.

Haha, well now that 12 people have voted we are again at a dead draw, 4 each way.

i would definitly like to see the carbon reactor…and could bring the parts if i can know what they are, or ill reimberse someone…

i said reactor but voted ato lol. would still like to see reactor.

BZ - If you want to change your vote, do so. I just enabled the option.

Longballz - That could work out well. I just built one for my turtle habitat but only took pics of construction. We could build yours at the meeting. If you want, we could meet at DPA and i can show you the reactor i built so you know what to expect and you can give me the money for parts. You can also tell me the exact size you want so i can build it to your specs. If im not mistaken, the price for a 24" X 3" reactor was roughly $20.

From the feedback so far, and all of the related posts, it looks like a reactor might be the way to go for the first DIY.

It just means we have Jan feb and March topics all lined up lOl

sounds like a plan…carbon reactor it is. if it is a pvc project send me a pm on a list and i will pm you a conformation on what i can bring to meeting to donate.

How to frag? My zoas are getting big…

im not sure that would qualify as DIY. There are some nice zoo fragging demos on youtube you can check out. That was the only thing i had to go by when i first fragged zoos.

We had a frag meeting earlier this year. Jon fragged zoas, acro, Lps, and mushrooms.
