Hello all

Hello all, my first post here. Don't really have any questions but just wanted to say HI. I see there is a meeting coming up and was thinking of stopping by. Been reading some of the posts and seen some pretty interesting ones. Just read the posts on fragging mush rooms and found that very interesting. Never tried that but interesting in tring.

Been in this hobby for a very long time and kinda drifted out of it the last few years and looking to get back into it.

I have a 180g AGA reef tank with 150g custom acrylic sump/refugium. Tank is lit with 3= 175 watt MH and 2= 6ft vho bulbs and 2= 4ft vho flouresent bulbs, but thinking of tring some thing different. Tanks a little bare but still have some corals and fish. Tanks has been running for about 8 years now.

Thanks and looking forward to meeting ya.

                                     Bill

Nice to hear from ya Bill. Where are you located? Do you have any pictures of your tank? It sounds awesome! Feel free to stop by the meeting, we are always welcoming and glad to see new faces.

Hello Bill and welcome to ReefKeepersAnonymous! (only slightly kidding :P)

Hope you come to the meeting! Everyone here are great, very friendly and knowledgeable. Tank sounds very nice, I can’t believe you don’t have it totally stocked after 8 years!

And what Icy said…we want pics!

  Hey how are you

I'll check on the pics and post some. My tanks pretty bare right now but I'll get some pics. I'm in Delaware on Route 40 near the Md line. Used to be a full of everything but things come up and it kinda went down. The equipment that is on it let the tap run pretty smooth but, hoping it will come back.
It used to be very well stocked, colt coral was over run and would bud off like crazy. But my little gems were the clams. I'm getting some pics and I'll post them here in a little bit.

Sounds like your right by my work. Clams are awesome I’m planning on one (or two!) my self in the near future

:Welcome) how did you find out about us? glad ya getting back into it… well we all know once your in your in. you can never turn backkkkkkk

Tank

wow! what happend? looked reall nice.
o yah :Welcome)
i saw 9 clams. well it looks like you know what doing and it just went south.
are you going for sps this time around? i saw the blonde naso and purple tang but what are your other tank in habitants?
also are you still using those power sweepers? they $uck. i just got a koralia 3 and it pushes an unbelivable amount of water. it also uses less then half the energy of a sweeper.

sorry if im comming off to harsh but i think your setup has real potential and im excited to see what u do next. brett

Hey Brett, no problems, Some things came up and I was not able to maintain it like normal and then just kinda got away from it and fell into couple other hobbies. Right now I have that blonde naso which has been in my tank for about 4 years, he’s got almost a 2 inch long streamers. Have one pretty big purple tang, a mated pair of maroon clowns, a Bicolor Pseudochromis which I got today and a couple yellow tailed damsels. Not sure on the corals this time I still like to mix them. Like the acoporas so might try some of those this time, but my favorite is a Elegance and I will have another. I like to get a show size piece. As far as the power sweaps I still have them in the tank but there not on. I made a large tube set up with big pump to spray behind the rocks.

My clams were my favorite, I can't blame the tank for there failing, I had a very large algae blenny, was about 5 inches long and he pecked and ripped at each clam. I had no idea this was happening until I watched him rim a piece of mantel off of one of the clams and it happened to be a 6 inch gold tear drop. I talked to alot of people and no ones ever heard of one being agressive or eating meat for that matter. I've had tanks since I was little and i'm 38 now. My first salt water tank was back in 94 and was a 60 gallon octogon. Looking forward in getting this one back to the first pics

im 13 and my tank is over a year old. im starting to get into sps now so i know a thing or two but i wouldn’t call myself an expert. i have a regular naso now that might be female.

it seems like you have a very agressive tank. have you had any problems with agression?

what do yo uwant to keep in your “new” setup as in coral. softies? shrooms/zoos? sps?
i just want to get an idea of what you like and what the tank will ultimatly look like

How big is your tank? The only problem I had was the colt coral taing over. It would bud and pinch pieces off every day. I got rid of alot of it way back went and now the only piece I have left is about the sice of a dime. Maybe it'll come back. I hope to get it back to the same if not better then the first pics.

I like the soft corals, but the elegance is my favorite. A nice large hammer would be nice also. The acapora frags I've seem are pretty nice but I've never had any luck with those. I really want some more clams. Who knows were it'll go this time. I'm thinking of stripping it out and restruturing the rocks a little different

my tank is a 25.
if your going to move rock here’s what i would say:
make a large bucket of water 30+ gallons
re arrange all rock
do water change

this is what i would personally do: remove damsels and agressive fish. i would can them and get really nice looking fish like a flame angle, a nice flasher wrasse, a few lyertail anthis and such.
then i would think about what coral i want to keep
then i would upgrade my flow(i dont know what you have now?) if needed.
after a stable year i would start to upgrade to harder to keep coral and eventually easy to sps then to hard ones.

The last time I did it I used 4 45 gallon storage bins and it took 2 solid days of work. Started on a Friday night and didn't stop still Sunday night with no sleep in the middle.

Thinking about changing the style of lights. But not sure.

i dont know how much poop will come out of the rocks when you move them. what kind of lighting would u be using?
