Hey Andy ...

they would both work just fine. i think Al idea was to come up with the best system to assist with your pod/micrfauna population.

draining it outside is a good idea. you could always just build a gravel sump outside to dissapate the water

By going above the tank you will allow gravity to send water to the display and it will not kill the pod population as they wont have to go through a pump. I think you are worried about head pressure; remember you are not going from the floor to the top of the tank but from a point just below the display to right above the DT. You will have <= the loss you currently have on your 92 from the floor to the top of the tank.
PVC once sealed properly is very unlikely to leak.

Or you could just pick up a larger tank and do a sump/fuge combo. I happen to know where you could get a real cheap 75g ;D That way there is no need to plumb one tank into another.

Thought of that, but the closet it’s going in won’t allow enough room to put another 75 in and still have the elbow room I am looking for to be able to work in there.

I am liking to “Fuge Above” idea better and better as I think about it more.

Al, you want to drill the 20L for me when you do the 75?

Now I can start working on the stand for the sump and fuge Thanks guys.

Of course now I also have to work on cleaning out the closet, unburying my saws from the garage, building a unit to house all the kids stuff that’s currently in the closet…

Have I mentioned how much I love this hobby, such a nice, simple, relaxing way to spend our free time?! :BB)

I agree 100% relaxing #@$?&*X#

I added the extra things you mentioned and also increased your bucket for water changes up to a 2 25-gallon drums

So Relaxing…yes

So Relaxing…yes
this how i need my tank setup. very proffesional looking al. seems to me you worked out every kink. looks very nice. good luck cdangleo hope it works out for you. i have some extra pvc in various sizes and length’s you can have and i can get aot of electrical stuff for free like recepticals and wire. lmk if interested

OK, maybe it’s late, too much to drink, too much stress, but that looks a HELL of a lot like the makings of a nuclear reactor to me.

I’m going to print it out and post it on the fridge, just want to see if Al’s number is mysteriously erased from my cell in the morning ;D

Tell your wife I am building a water leak sensor for her. It will stand on 3 pins and if water contacts any 2 of the pins it will sound a buzzer and possibly turn the water off. (Not too hard, solenoid valve)

Ok you are on and i called, no answer?? Wow she is fast.

Phones upstairs and I couldn’t hear it ring with all the fans running

I decided on 4 pins and in the shape of a spider. I will call it a water spider. When any 2 legs contact water it will ring a buzzer.

It will run either on 12 VAC or 9 volts DC. The difference being the control of a selenoid valve or just a buzzer.
I may be able to work on it this week or next. Jens about to pop so I will work on it in secret in the basement while I am home. shhh ::slight_smile:

A Few sump ideas I have collected in my travels through the internet:

Heater Holder

Not really a sump but looks powerful… ugh ugh

Here are some shots of my original sump

Drilled a few holes for Craig.

Nice guys!

Where did you get the jig from Al? is it clamped on to the tank somehow?

Not clamped. it sits on 4 rubber feet. It is a simple craftman special. It makes starting the hole easier as the bit does not travel.
I drilled the rest of the hole without it as I can use less pressure.

Nice… looks like that went pretty well. Did you do the 75 and the 20L or just the 20L? After that 20 the 75 must have seemed easy. So much harder to break thicker tanks.
