i wanna see bill's new clams

today’s wednesday. where are the pics???

Well Paul I seem to have no luck with these big clams this one was shipped to my house instead of my job and it set outside with the bags leaking and no water for several hours.

Gonna be very surprised if it lives >::: If it does I’ll post picks. If you want empty shell pics I have 3 so far.

How slow do these guys grow? Can’t you wait for yours to grow up?

I was really hoping to win my first clam by posting a FTS of yesterday. Stayed up all night long making my first rock scape at home in MANY years. I missed the contest. One of these days I’ll get one.

Depends on the clam Jon. The derasas and the gigas grow real fast maybe a inch a year, as far as clams go maxis and croceas alot slower maybe 1/4 inch a year.

And Paul I can't believe it but the clam was looking better last night before the lights went out.

It was so stressed in the bag it was spawning, and if you ever seen it on TV when they spawn it’s just like that, big white cloud coming out there flute. I dumped the bag 3 times before putting it in the tank.

lucky it spawned there and not in the tank. maybe the spawn helped, nitrates? who knows gooooood luck!

   Thanks Paul,

The guy said he would take care of me if it died. We'll see tonight. I hope it pulls through it's real pretty.

That sucks Bill. I sure hope it pulls through for you!!!

Well guys this ones out as well. If I can get one of these things shipped without breaking the dam bag I might get one to live. This one was shipped though UPS and came and just about all the water was gone again.

Luckily this is a stand up seller and is just gonna refund me my money. I need to get one locally so I can avoid the butcher shippers

Sorry to hear you lost it. :frowning: Mike at TFZ usually has about 3-4 clams that would fill most of our tanks up quick.(or empty the tank with one quick mantle close:-) ) He asking a bit much? He does work with some higher income reefers, so it wouldn’t’ shock me if you said they were too much. Other then that I would just make LFS aware that you’re looking for one if they find someone wanted to trade one in and they can hold it for a week for you so your sure it wasn’t harmed by the move.

it’s horrible that they don’t take better care in shipping.
i doubt youre interested, but coralprops has about 6 for sale-7 day guarantee.$170-210.

Bummer, how were they packaged?

Thanks Paul

I saw those , I talked to Charlie at DPA and I think theres someone that he deals with that can get them and they trans ship them instead of UPS or FEDEX so maybe it might have a chance

This one was triple bagged in a insulated bag with packing peanuts around it. The problem is they don't put the bag around the clam so the sharp edges puncture the bag. Doesnt matter if there was 10 bags around it the clam moves around in the bag and puts a hole in them.

I really want one of these clams but I'm not ordering anymore online that are bigger then 4 inch. The shippers have no regard for the animals in the box.

wait for dr mac to get some, and we’ll both get one no shipping. stop at john’s.

OOOOO that is why they put a empty bag around the clams an then put that in the water when they ship me my clams…that always confused me

Yep

Thats why and if it's done correct theres a much higher success.

Same thing happens with many corals including one of my favorites Fungia plates. They just need a bag or two around the animal that isn’t tied or closed or anything. When they are stretched out it is so easy to make a hole in the bag, but when they are lose it’s a different story.

Clamsdirect was very good to me…

they h ave a nice 7" green maxi ultra 190

o wait i got mine from clams on demand
