Or not.
Backing is done, but I am sure you have been to work already and have seen it. Let me know if you have any questions or comments. I did not install the bulkheads as there was only one, but also to let the application liquid dry up and the vinyl to fully adhere.
Let me know if it gives you any problems.
I checked it out today, the vinyl looks very nice! and the rock work was sitting in it too, it looked sweeeeet! This tank is gonna be very nice… it may even end up getting Jon’s stamp of approval :-)lol
Well, first off, thank you Very much Andy! You did a great job, and it looks amazing! I was extremely surprised to see it done already and I was very grateful!
Second, thank you everyone that has been helping because there are a lot of things that I have not done before and have gotten a lot of help from many people so thank you Very much to everyone!
Lastly, I hope everyone likes it, but I don’t need any approval other than Lindsay’s :BEER
Tank is coming together just as I had hoped, so I am very happy so far!

That is often the hardest one to get approval from! Just try to keep the ground clean in front of it of buckets and towels and such. Probably will help this time that the noise and any smells won’t be in her small dorm room!
I’ll let you know when the light rails are in.
Update?
Quick updated of the progress of the 65
In the past two days we got everything done, rock work finished, and tank is now running and clearing up!
After I finished up with the rockwork:
Cloudy tank last night after everything was finished:
This morning after I cleaned the front and side glass:
Our sump w/ fuge mud, and a topping of Coarse Ca reactor media:
And a closeer-up of our rock work:
System looks awesome!! Amazing equipment that I wish I could afford. LOL.
My only concern is all of the electrical equipment attached to the outside of the stand. Is there a way to build a seperate standing enclosure next to the stand that you could keep all of the equipment inside. My only concern with all the electric components on the side of the stand would be water exposure from drips, splashes etc. Just a thought, but regardless I am totally jealous! Amazing work!
I absolutely love the rock work!!! Looks fantastic.
Those lights are incredible - can they be mounted the other way to provide wider coverage area?
Looking good Jared and Lindsay! (or should I assume Jcling is Jared and Lindsay is still too good for us. ) So much potential with a new tank. It is like a new born baby! What will it grow up to be!?!
Is this tank started with all new water and sand and will be fully cycled for a month or so before live stock go in? Any particular live stock you guys have been planning for a while?
One other question… is that a nano magnet cleaner I see on the side glass?
Thank you very much everyone, it is a project that has taken over 6 months to get ready and set up, and we are happy with it so far.
I understand the electrical concern, but this is the safest we have done yet, but in general we are very careful w/ splashes and such and luckily there is a lip to help protect, but in general the only way we get things we is if the spill can reach it, and it can’t if it is mounted, so that was our theory, but we could probably mount it elsewhere soon.
I know Jon! We are very excited! About the tank, all the sand is live sand, all the rock is Very dead lol. I started it off with one large bottle of that IO crap that is suppose to have the live bacteria in it. I am gonna let that cycle in the tank for about 3 or 4 days… then I am going to add another bottle. After about a week of that, we are gonna turn the skimmer on, and give the system about 2 more weeks and test where we are at with everything. If all goes well in about 3 to 4 weeks I will add our first fish on the stock list, and yes Jon, we have thought out our stock list very thoroughly
The Neo mag cleaner is all I had in the apartment, and it is gonna be used as a magnetic frag plug for GSP on the back wall b/c Lindsay has to be happy w/ the tank, and she won’t be if there is no GSP lol…

Keeping it a secret?
Will you be feeding the tank before their is animals in it? I have always believed it was a good idea to add some small quantity of food to the tank during the cycling process. Adding bacteria to break down waste when there isn’t the waste in the tank that will typically be there…(realizing the fish won’t be pooping out the food, but having the raw food I believe is better then nothing) Thoughts? Plans?
Keep up with the photos you guys. Having fun tagging along and seeing this thing come to life!
I know you probably have your mind set on the light, but in my opinion (if it were my tank) I would put those lights sideways and forward on the tank. Most of your corals will be in the front half or sand and you don’t need much light behind the rocks.
Woooohooooo! Looks great guys! Still pretty jealous of those lights… that mp40 isn’t too shabby either:-)
what is on this super secret stock list good sir?
Stock list to come in a bit after work
Tim, I have done lots of research on how to do this tank, as it has taken us over 6 months to get everything together and plan it out. Putting the lights horizontal would have no realistic benefit. You get 100% light coverage, and I will be able to grow everything I want to grow with the way the lights are, and front to back lighting is more important than lighting my return drain which would just grow algae
holy crap jared/lindsay. you are gonna have so much light that you’ll need coppertone spf 100 just to go into the room. yep the rock structure is beautiful. do i recognize a piece or two that were in my basement?
Tim may have something when he suggests horizontal mounting. play around w/it. basically you have on yr 40 what i have on my 75 2 mods and an mp40. way to go!
Thank you Paul. We thought about the horizontal, but like how it looks vertically. We did use one of the pieces that we bought from you And we did upgrade the 40g to a 65g (which is what was in the pic) so its a bit closer to the 75g just 36".
dude badass! setup looks great. love the rockwork!! cant wait to see you get some stuff in there
the deep colors are gonna make you guys freak OUT!
How about a full equipment run down. What you are using, models, and what you plan to purchase in the future. That is… after the stock list. I’m nosy.
