Ahhh the headaches of sps. 1 day of change can affect sps a month later I have heard. I have and still am there myself. Just at the point sometimes you gotta stop trying and let it run its course.
My mushrooms are loving it, my jawkbreaker and bounce in the main tank are dropping babies so I am excited for that to help cover what I’ve lost in sps and help recoup some of what these shrooms have cost me initially. Almost tempted to move all my shrooms to that tank but as the saying goes “don’t put all of your eggs in 1 basket”.
When you’re ready I’m sure I can hook you up with some frags to get you going again.
Yeah. But I never noticed them attacking or anything. Always figured it was just the snail biting the bullet. They certainly haven’t attached my turbo snail and he would be the biggest target.
Then there’s this guy too. Another hitchhiker. Some sort of cowrie?
Check the shells of the dead snails. They might have holes in heir shells. I’d pull those whelks they’ll be nothing but trouble. Get a picture of their underside and I can definitively say if they are.
So I had been pulling them and putting them in my sump. I noticed three last night on that birdsnest that went from looking totally healthy Tuesday to being half dead last night. Maybe there eating my coral and that’s the mystery problem. Those that I pulled last night didn’t make it to the sump…
Whelks don’t eat coral, from what I know. I can’t tell from those pictures. Whelks have a trap door that is attached to their body as opposed to snails which have doors that are attached to their shells. Can you tell which these have? Also, the bodies of whelks look tattooed.
if you only have a phone camera, try one of the free macro apps, I have used Magnifier & Microscope by cozy with good results.
Note: tripod and timer helps a lot for still shots
I don’t know if you have a Samsung or not but I have had great luck with s3,s5,s7 in pro mode. I typically use around 1/15- 1/60 on the brightness thing, lowest setting for iso, color set at 10,000 Kelvin and standard tone, sometimes I’ll use soft or breezy if I can get a more true to color. Then I use manual focus that’s the best way to capture your target period with these cellphone cameras. Zooming I try not to do extreme zoom shots cause they tend to blur but a mid depth typically comes out awesome.
How are these? I downloaded an app on my iPhone. Never would’ve thought an app could improve camera quality. I added a bottle cap for a size comparison
Hard to tell still but that doesn’t look like a whelk underside. Might just be a nass. Can you see eyes on the end of the stalks?
