Kyle's 75G Build

Some updated shots. Everything seems to be coming along well, even the pocillopora is doing ok minus the chunks taken out of it by the whelks when I find them. Still no real tentacle extension from the trachy, but it looks better and better.

It told me my pictures were too large, so had to break it up.

Looks great!

Tank is looking good, and that Wrasse is bad a$$

Kinda jealous…

Still wish I could get the wrasse to eat food other than picking at the rocks, but it is what it is. She seems happy and healthy so I won’t worry until that changes! They (Leopard Wrasses) seem to have a relatively poor survival rate during shipping, but I imagine if you found one at a LFS who was already used to the time change, it would be a piece of cake for you Donavon! The only word of advice I read was to just make sure their mouth isn’t damaged. Since they bury in the sand if they’re kept in a tank with no sand, they make a bee-line for the sand bed and then smack the bottom, damaged mouth, can’t eat, starvation :frowning: Sad to read that it’s such a problem.

Thanks Adam! Beside pulling out some whelks (2 off the pocillopora last night) everything seems to be doing well. I think they’re becoming less and less prevalent.

And since we established those terrors are whelks, I’m willing to bet they are the reason the shrimp disappeared after his molt. He was vulnerable and they took advantage of him! I got a replacement :frowning: but he is a trip! When I feed the tank, he climbs into the kenya tree and scurrys around stealing the food off all the polyps lol

You’re probably right. Shrimp are a lot of fun until you try and spot feed a coral… then they become pests!

I’ve got my eye one the white bellied Wrasse (Halichoeres leucoxanthus) for the new tank. But I’m gonna wait a couple months for a good population of bugs and stuff to settle in.

In the mean time I’ve been told (by my wife) that I need a “Pretty red fish” in my tank, so the 90 gallon is gonna get a Labouts Fairy wrasse soon, I think.

Great pics Kyle, tank looks really good.

I have my ghetto solution, at least for corals on the sandbed. Took a 2 liter Coke bottle and cut it, drilled a hole in the lid 5/16" for airline, and ran a syringe with food/water solution into the Coke bottle. I used it today to try and feed the trachy and you could tell the shrimp did not appreciate it lol

Awesome! (And where the pics!?)

At home. I can provide the airline tubing and syringe if you want one. You supply the coke bottle :BEER

I’ll take a picture of my ghetto set up tonight when I get home. Here’s a pic of the pocillopora where you can see the damage from the whelks. The front of the frag looks great, then this is the back :BB)

Here it is Adam. My budget coral feeder lOl

Nifty feeder you got there. Now if only you could catch the peppermint shrimp I put in my other tank. Bastard ate a couple huge bubbles off big papa OG

Hmmm, is there some kind of trap you could use? My cleaner literally hijacks my arm every time I put it in the tank. I started dosing phyto a few weeks ago because I ordered a little bottle to try and start a culture. My pod population has skyrocketed since then! Even with my mandarin (tiny) and the wrasse eating only pods, I can see hundreds on the glass today.

It’s the same shrimp that was eating my acro’s. I felt bad about flushing him so I threw it in my other tank but thought I threw it in the sump… guess not

He is never out and has seemed to figure out my soda bottle trap or the wrasse is eating that food. Even late at night I only see it once every couple weeks and then it disappears.

That’s awesome about the pod population and the Mandarin. I might be getting one for the wife she loves them.

Potentially stupid question… but since I didn’t QT the leopard wrasse for the normal timeframe, is there any way to ensure I don’t have ich in my DT? I’m thinking about getting a small tang and don’t want it to get ich since I know their reputation for it… abcd

Unfortunately not. You could re-QT the wrasse and run a fallow period.

Considering the leopard wrasse isn’t eating frozen foods still, I think that would be a bit of a problem :SURRENDER
