But with that said leopard wrasses have a healthy slime coat and produce and shed a mucus coat daily so are less likely to harbor the parasite.
Less likely but no guarantee.

Leopard wrasse, mandarin, and goby should all be fairly resistant because of their slime coat. I guess worst case is I QT the tang, add it and if it gets ich, pull everyone and copper them… I’ve been trying to keep my QT to just two rounds of prazi and observation. The wrasse was in QT for almost two weeks before being added but I’m sure that’s not long enough in reality to give the all clear for ich

Got a Maxima clam for the holidays. It came from LiveAquaria and opened as soon as I added it. Ordered the “Ultra Grade” and was a bit disappointed in the coloration, so I emailed LA about it with a picture. They agreed that it looked like a 1st grade and refunded me the cost of the clam… Free clam! PBJ!

Can’t beat a free clam! How big is it?

~2" Across I would say. I’ve been supplementing phyto still, although I’ve read mixed things about it being needed for clams or not.

I’ve kept several before and never feed them anything. As long as they get proper lighting and of course water parameter are good, especially cal and alk. I think most of us that keep clam in our club never feed their clams either.

Nice clam either way.

Nice clam! Like food, they are better when free

I’ve never fed any of my clams before, they filter the water.

Thanks everyone. I know they don’t really neeeed the phyto, but I’ve been dosing it anyway like every other day to make sure my pod population stays up with the wrasse and mandarin. My copepod culture isn’t breaking any land speed records for production. Is there any way to know if it’s getting enough light? I currently have it sitting on the sandbed and it seems happy enough. I put a piece of rock under it and it’s attached to it. The clam has only moved side to side a little bit, nothing major.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with dosing phyto so long as your tank can handle the bioload. I was just saying I don’t think your clam needs it. As long as it is open when the lights are on, the mouth isn’t gaping (wide open), mantle isn’t pinched and it reacts to stimulus (tap the glass or shade it with your hand under the light) you’re good.

I wish my tank could handle the bioload a little less honestly lol. I’m still getting basically 0 and 0 while dosing phyto, coral food, and feeding the fish heavily. I’m about to add two clownfish after three weeks of QT though so maybe that’ll help my nutrients a bit.

That turns into its own problem eventually. I think that’s a contributing factor to my tank’s demise. I never could keep my nutrients up. Dosing for nitrates and phosphates is an option, but I’m not really comfortable with that right now. There are high quality sources you can buy, but I’ve seen weird issues in my tank from dosing nitrates.

Yeah, I know it can become an issue. Especially for corals who like dirtier water. I’m already only running my skimmer overnight too. These two clowns will bring me to six fish total. I was thinking I can afford to stock only one or two more in my 75 before things start getting cramped for the fish.

I use to run a ULNS and it was a pain
had a real problem controlling phosphate, once I got nitrate up a little to 1 to 2ppm phosphates would stay down between .02 - .04

Anyone have suggestions for why my radioactive dragon eyes zoas aren’t opening up? It’s been a few weeks now that they’ve been closed… they were open initially when I got them for a while, haven’t changed anything about my routines. I’ve tried moving them twice now to see if it was a lighting/flow thing with no improvement. Also tried a freshwater dip to see if there was anything irritating them. Other ideas? TIA

Low nutrients…?

Do you have other zoas in the tank?

If so, how are they doing?

There’s a big rock of tubbs blue zoas that are fine and a frag of something I don’t remember the name of from Donavon that’s doing fine also. I’ve been continuing to feed heavily Adam, and will be adding those clownfish tomorrow which might help the nutrients.

I have had this happen in the past. Move 1 Colony over to my other tank and they close up for a week or more while all the other zoa’s are doing good. I don’t know what I’m doing but my zoa’s in my 1 tank are finally taking off.
You can always check to see if any algae is growing on the polyps. Sometimes they won’t open up if they get a little coating on them. Flow could be a thing also.
So many variables. I honestly wouldn’t be worried unless this happens to your other zoa’s

So just let them melt away? The colony has been slowly getting smaller lol
