So just let them melt away? The colony has been slowly getting smaller lol[/quote]Didn’t see anything about them melting just not opening. Those are easy to keep zoa’s. Some will start melting if they are not happy. There is something about that colony. Where was it placed in the tank you got it from? Was it in a flow zone, was it under a halide or right under a led cluster?

I’m sorry, I should’ve clarified. They’ve been closed up for a while now that it seems their numbers are diminishing. I honestly don’t even remember who I got them from so it’s hard to tell what conditions they were in before.

Try doing a peroxide dip, if it is bacterial, this will likely take care of it. Basically a 4:1 ratio 4 parts tank water to one part peroxide. Dunk it in and swish it around good with a baster, let it bubble for about five minutes or so.

This should take care of any potential pests, and kill a bacterial infection

Give them a day or so in a lower light area to rest with good flow, good chance they will bounce back, if not then maybe they are too far gone.

I have had success this way, also with iodine, but I think peroxide is easier on the polyps. I have also had colonies just never recover, it’s worth a try, plenty of posts on plenty of sites with good results…

+1

Ok. I’ll try the peroxide dip. I’m afraid they may be too far gone, there’s only two polyps left and they’re looking mighty small.

Worth a try - good luck

It’s worth a shot, but peroxide is pretty harsh on them. I’d do a really gentle bath and for no more than 60 seconds. You can always repeat it.

At least my SPS are finally happy. I’ve definitely nipped the whelks in the butt now. Didn’t see any for almost a week, then I found two last night. Still major progress in the right direction.

I’m honestly surprised they don’t go for the clam. You would think the fleshy mantle would be a prime target.

Progress is progress!

Added those two clownfish today finally. That’ll help the nutrients a bit.

::thumbsup::

I am also a fan of peroxide dip for zoas, it also kills irritating algae too.
most Zoas are hardy and when closed with their slime coat they can stand dips easily.

Dipped them this morning. Didn’t seem to appreciate the dip so there’s some life left still. I’ll post a picture of what they’re like in a few hours when I make it home.

Not much left of them

That sucks. Peroxide is really rough on polyps. They can handle it when healthy when they’re that sick it is usually too much.

Yeah, at least it’s only the radioactive dragon eyes. Seems like a common zoa. Heres some updated pictures

Wouldn’t let me post all the pics at once.

More pics

Won’t let me post any more pictures. I’m getting an error message

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 94371840 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 16128 bytes) in /home2/delreef/public_html/smf/Sources/Subs-Graphics.php on line 412

you might need to find some way to get them smaller.
