NEPTUNE APEX JR

Any one using APEX JR? if so what is your experience? Thanks

you will love it A same as the neptune full just without the v/s ports and probe

How are you connecting yours to the router? hard wire or wireless? My tank is far away from my router for me to hard wire to the router. Is there a wireless way to connect it so that I may use my Iphone to keep up with the tank? thanks Tim

I have one currently on my fresh water tank. Any particular questions?

The full Apex is often a smarter buy for the money. All depends on what you want to do with it.

Jon, my questions are in the above thread.

Preferred and easier way to the router is wired but you can get a wireless connection as well. You have to get the same device that makes your computer wireless and set it up. But I would think that this way would be harder to troubleshoot if there’s a connection issue.

A if you have time I can show it to you the features and connection if you have some time before you get it.

Cool, Tim. I’ll get with you this weekend then. Thanks

sure thing

A don’t u have a crawspace? We could run the wire under the house :TWOCENTS

Actually I do Jason, good idea, never thought of that. I guess I can do that. I think it can be plan B. I want to try the wireless things first to see how that will work out, if not plan B. Thanks

Any one using APEX JR?
Yes one Apex Jr, and three full APEX.

if so what is your experience?
Grrrrrrrreat.

How are you connecting yours to the router? hard wire or wireless?
I’ve done both and could help with either.

Is there a wireless way to connect it so that I may use my Iphone to keep up with the tank?
Yes and if you are a network administrator for a living it is really simple to do. Otherwise it will take a bit of learning and pateints, but hundreds if not thousands of people have done so.
I use a linksys WET610N. You can save a couple bucks and purchase them on Amazon or I just pick them up at BestBuy so if there is an issue returning/exchanging them is simple and easy. These are a wireless bridge which is basically the exact same thing you would use to get a old desktop computer or a xbox/psp/wii on a network. They sell wireless gaming devices that are the essentially the same thing.

Yeah the network and access outside of your network is the difficult part. But once it’s done your good. I had to set up a domain and it uses that for access. Plus aquanotes is the app to control things quickly. You have to open port 80 on your router which is easy I can access Linksys and d link routers. I assigned a static ip to the apex so it won’t change ip’s every 24 hours. If we can’t do it a 30min phone call to apex will do it I dealt with Eugene. He’s really impressive. I had update trouble with the mac but figured it out but windows is easier. It’s a great system that’s endlessly expandable. I would consider the full apex if were going to do LEDs over your tank but this can be added later.

Well, like Jon said, “if you are a network administrator for a living it is really simple to do” well, guess what I’m not. I know a little bit around the computer, but not that savy. It would take me a while to figure it out. But, if I can get someone to show/teach me it would be alot faster learning for me.

Yes, expansion is also in the future and using apex to run the LED is nearer future. Can’t wait!

You can buy a basic car to start with and pay an autobody shop to customize it more in the future to add all the bells and whistles later or if you plan to do it then it may be best to wait until you can buy a fully loaded vehicle. You can buy a Apex Jr. and later on pay more to add all the bells and whistles, but it is cheaper to buy it all upfront.

Send me a PM again with your phone number. Too many details to type all out.

I am not an apex user but I will say, I own a digital aquatics reef keeper elite and called them for support. They were very brief and not helpful. I didnt buy a $500.00 controller for crappy support. Sounds like you guys are all happy with the Neptune Apex.

I talk with the owner of Neptune just about once a month. Find someone who will say the same from Digital Crapquatics.

Should note I talk to the owner about upcoming products and pushing the Apex to the extremes of it’s abilities. It’s likely possible to do that with Neptune because there products have very little issues and their phone probably rings less then DA’s does.

reefman66 PM me your number and I’ll give you a call. Too many calls on my phone recently to figure out which one was you.

Well, I’m not really looking for the bell and whistle. I’m looking for simplicity and user friendly. And to be able to tailor it to my needs. Not paying an arm and a leg for bell and whistle for something I don’t need. And I got my APEX JR Tuesday.

Sweet u got it! If u buy the jr and upgrade later I think u spend $50 bucks more to make it a full apex then just buying the apex now. So you only spend around $50 bucks extra not a big deal. Is it hooked up yet?? Like I said earlier I can walk you through the hookup. I’m no expert but we can get it running what router brand do you have?

Yup, upgrade is later on down the line, but I would able to upgrade and tailor to what I want.

It’s up and running, but my router which is Linksys is located on other side in the next room. That’s why I’m asking how I can use it wireless or do i have to keep it hard wire, but hard wiring is plan B. From what Jon said, I need a router bridge to be able to do it wireless. But can I use regular router? also, how to config to use with Iphone other than aquanote.

I haven’t config for anything yet, wait till my weekend. Mean while just reading up on it.
