I ordered one on Monday, it’s the Bridgelux Multicolor 120 W and I added the 90 degree optics. Total came to $195 with free shipping. It came today via FedEX. Comes with a 1 year warranty and I told Andrew I was a member of our club and will check out this fixture.
I really like how it is constructed with 2 dimmers and 3 cooling fans built in the fixture.
I have one of these already, bought it from andrew. Thinking about getting two more for my 180 reef. Par without optics on the bottom of my tank was about 150-200 and 300-400 at the top of the tank about 3-4" above the water. I am overall pleased with light some of the reds and greens have some spotlighting but overall still pleased. If anyone is interested he gives discounts for multiple units. I will ask him if anyone is interested as I will most likely be getting two more. Lmk how you like it John.
Very pleased with the way the fixture looks on my frag tank. I only purchased one fixture to replace the 4 bulb T5 light I had on it. The T5 light worked fine but on my frag tank which is like 10 inches deep, I think it was too much light. So the LED fixture lights up the center of my 4’ x 2’ frag tank very well, leaving the sides a little dark, which I like for some of the frags that don’t need that much light.
Anyway, if need be, I can always buy another LED fixture and adjust the overall effect with the dimmers.
here are some pics, will post some tank pics tomorrow.
It came very well packaged via FedEx in 3 days
Top of fixture with the 3 fans and 2 dimmer switches and on/off, hanging supports, cable included
Led side with the 90 degree optics, which have a glass cover over them
That light does look very nice John, and Matt thats a lot of par down deep without any optics, wow. do you think optics would increase or reduce the spotting of colors?
John i should clarify, the spotting is very minimal if at all. I will post some pictures in the next few days. Those par readings were with the light 3-4" inches above the tank. Andrew said he usually keeps his about 8" above the water with 175 par on the sand bed. I am planning on raising the fixture up another 2-3" inches to get better spread throughout the whole tank. Overall i am pleased and will most likely be ordering two more very soon. If anyone is interested here are the prices Andrew gave me if we order multiple units:
5 units - $155 each
10 units -$150 each
I believe optics are $15 extra.
This is if they are shipped to the same place. Let me know if anyone else is interested as i will be ordering 2 more units very soon.
John - looking at the layout of the light, do you see a way to be able to mount them in a canopy?
When I set my new tank up I’m doing so with a canopy A. to keep excess light from spilling in to the room and B. becasue the wife doesn’t want me to hang anything from the ceiling in th eliving room.
I can get them to function with my AIs by using the reefkeeper to turn them on and off and using the AI controller to handle the sunrise / sunset / moonlight functions for the other 2 units. I just need to make sure everything can be mounted safely & easily.
anything is possible, i dont think it would be a problem.
i’d think they could be hung, or supported with cross beams for them to sit on within a canopy without it being a huge ordeal…
you have to remember that they have encased fans in the top, you will need to provide clearance and ventilation for that, they are just power plug and on housing dimmers, no controller hook up or programmability, that is out of the box I’m sure that the dimmers can be rewired to an external controller.

I had the fans in mind, i was thinking an inch minimum, but 2 or three of clearance above would be even better… and some passive air vents in the canopy… now the dimmers, i dunno i haven’t had leds to play with yet…
is getting to those dimmers all the time something that should be considered, or are they "set it and forget it " :: if the front of the canopy hinges open or has doors you could get right to them…
I also just noticed the power cord comes right off the unit… thats great, no fishing wires in and out of an electrical rats nest… at least thats me ::
any opinions on how one of these would cover a 30g (36’’ x 12’’) and at 17’’ deep probably no optics needed from what i saw in matts info? i would like to mount in as high as possible though to make it easier to reach in… so at a foot above the tank which optics do you think… and i want to light up some acros and anenomes…
now i have another idea… sell my t5 fixture and put 3 of these over my 125 ::
gotta go get the mrs convinced… the big tank is hers too :BB)
John if you want I don’t mind swinging over to your place sometime after work next week with my unit for you to check out. If you had the par meter we could even take some readings. Lmk.
Thanks Matt, that would be great to get some readings to share. the meter went south with A, and i know jason wanted it… i’ll see when i can get it… no hurry though…
we could also see if there is enough interest for a group buy after we all check em out ::
I just switched back from my DIY 2xMH150w plus 2x54w T5 pendant over my frag tank to a 6 bar T5 Tek Light fixture, and it is great. i get more blue in the tank and the corals are looking better. nothing wrong with flourescent lighting . Im growing John(saltcreep) a Pearl Berry frag right now for when he says WHEN!!
I mean , John has been drooling on it ever since he came over and took those great pics of my frag tank for the slide show. I owe you one! John!
Say When!!
Thanks Ken, believe me i’m looking forward to finally having a piece YahoO
nitrates are still dropping, my 30 will be ready for it soon i hope… It has good light with the 4 t5’s over it… and thats with old old bulbs… I’m gonna keep the fluorescents over that tank for awhile and see how it goes… maybe buy new bulbs one of these days…
OK John SC, it’s doing good under T5s. and the One John HBM got from me last year has been doing super in his tank with his LEDs and VHOs. Right John? ive seen your pics, its looking great in your 180.
Hmmm. have you got any recent pics of your PB lately John?
