par reading thread

If everyone is finished with the par meter we’d like to give it a go in our tank!! We’ll do it under Tim’s supervision, since we’re noobs and don’t want to be blamed for breaking it :stuck_out_tongue:

par meter is going next to Mortyn this weekend [maybe tomorrow; i’m not quite sure. gotta check] after he’s done, it’s yours.
under tim’s supervision?? yikes that’s a risk in itself. ::rofl::

i could defend myself but i have to agree verdict_in

has anyone else tested with the par meter interested in lighting types and numbers

Here are my numbers:

Tank is a 180 gallon with 3x250 MH HQIs and 4x80watt T5 HOs. Left bulb is between 15-20K, middle and right bulb are 10-15K. Bulbs are about 10 months old and are from catalina aquaium.

Nice high numbers I like the different colors from left to right nice looking tank.

Those are some good looking numbers. How deep are 180g?

Thanks guys. 180 is 72x24x24. I really would like to go with more blue but I have some spare bulbs and want to use them up before I pay for new ones. In the meantime I will have to go with the whiter look, however I am getting higher par and better growth out of the whiter bulbs so who knows.

Guys I don’t have those fancy reading pics like everyone else so sorry, I took a reading on the bottom of mine all way in the front and back on the bottom in all three sections and I’m getting 210-220 with all my lights on.
I’m running three 250 watt Phoinix 14k with individual reflectors , two 6 foot 420 UVL VHO fluorescence and two 6 foot 455 led tubes.

I'm getting super growth but colors of the sps are not quite there yet ,little to much light, hopefully the bulbs will calm down some and everything will start to color back up.

I am still going to do the LEDs but didn’t look right with only one. I wanna get them and put them all on at one shot. Also with most of my SPS still small these lights will jump start the growth. May try to raise the light rail up to lessen them down some. Right now the lights are about 7 inches above the water line.

Lol Bill! You told me a week ago you had no interest in dimming your LEDs at all… Why raise them up when you can just send less electricity to them(which you are paying for) One of the benifits to LEDs is they aren’t suppose to put out different PAR ratings at different times during the bulbs life. Supposed to shoot out the same PAR until they’re dead.

Perhaps you may want to consider putting dimmable LEDs in.

So I did the par reading and these are my results. I have a 37 gallon tank and a 6 bulb ATI sunpower… the light is 7" above the water surface.

Those are great numbers ::thumbsup:: really high at the bottom for t5’s. Light should be no issue in your tank.
what exact bulbs are you using?

Those are nice numbers. Growing acros shouldn’t be any problems.

Hey, Who;s got the Club Par Meter?

Who’s next to give it a try?

Lynchie has it

Well, then, Would you Please Ask him to bring it back to the meeting. It’s sposed to be lent out to Club Members, short term, and then returned to a Club Officer so that it is available for the next Club Member request.

One of the Bennies of being a card carrying Paid Member.

I like Club Bennies!

It’s what we live for!

I was just wondering where it was also ::thinking::

get em Kapt!

Yes I do have the par meter, and would be happy to bring it. To address the “Paid Member” deal I was under the assumption that I was. Since at the very 1st meeting I attended a year ago I had paid the treasurer $10 or $20 bucks and believed that was the dues to become a part of the club. Because I had read you needed to be a member to join in on group buys. Now if I was misformed or need to do something else to become a “member” can a club officer or someone with the ability to change that let me kno.

Well, then you’re good. I just hadnt heard where it was since the last meeting in may.
See you at the meeting!

Sounds good, ::thumbsup::
