Man you have a lot of asterina starfish!
No kidding, I took this picture on 2/26 at 5:30 am, all lights were off so i used cameras flash.
What is amazing is once the lights are on all of the star fish disappear.
That looks like one of my tanks Rosti! Nice shot. I have a peppermint shrimp in QT currently that likes to eat the little guys so I may have to put him into that tank and see what happens.
Your scrubber matte looks like that plastic square mesh they sell at the arts and crafts shop for embroidering? is that what you use? it looks like you have it hanging straight down. if the light is above, you could lean a sheet of plastic at an angle for it to lay on. the water from the header will still flow down the matte like a water slide, but it will get more light friom above. might grow more algae.
From what I heard its made of perforated canvas from arts and crafts. And u flow strait down and light from both sides. Is this it for nutrient removal rosti? Or do you run gfo and a skimmer?

whats the rule of thumb size for scrubbers? is it 10 sq in per 100g?
I don’t remember, sounds correct. I made it as large as I can fit it in sump.

Like always Ken you have great ideas. I was trying to avoid splashing and its illuminated by its own lamp on one side and refug lamp on the other side.
“Your scrubber matte looks like that plastic square mesh they sell at the arts and crafts shop for embroidering?” yes it is !
Looks great Rosti, can’t wait to see it again in person in a couple weeks. Prepare yourself for me coming up because i will probably have some questions about this BB stuff when i come up. haha.

i think algae scrubber of proper size will do much better job. Mine is way too small, but every little helps. Without using GFO I cant keep phosphate to reasonable levels (.03 ± using Hanna) Scrubber even so small i am sure does something, because algae is growing on it. Best part about it is its producing food and breeding ground for “pods”, I stopped adding live phytoplankton because of algae scrubber. It was easy/cheap to make and don’t take much time to clean.
I’ve been reading on rc about them they say 12x12 per cube a day so if you feed one cube of food you need a 12x12 scrubber with 13 watts of light I think I will be adding one on the future
