Theres sharks in these waters!

Hey guys, thought you might enjoy this. We went over to Maryland fossil hunting the other day with our friends Jen and John (Greenfishandham). We got there for low tide and ended up having a pretty good day. The first few are pictures of where we went, and the last couple are some of the finds me and Keleigh had. We ended up with 145 shark teeth, the biggest of which is between 2-3" long. We aslo found some fossilized bones of some sort, a dolphin tooth, a random selection of fossilized shells, some dental plates from rays and 2 pieces of fossilized crab claw. Enjoy! (Perhaps if you ask nice they will post a couple pictures of what they found… I know there was a real nice one from a snaggletooth shark and one from the Giant Mako in their collection for the day)

Me and Keleigh’s shark teeth for that day:

Very nice! I think I’m going on a Meg tooth hunting trip down in the Carolinas in June/July. I can’t tell you the location but its about 130 feet deep. They usually find Meg teeth there about the size of your hand!

Very cool. Don’t think I’ve ever woken up in the morning and said “let’s go fossil hunting”. That tooth was huge. Very nice finds indeed.

Very cool! Where is this place at?

Ian, that’d be sweet to find some meg teeth, good thing they aren’t around anymore lOl

Awsome, I’m jelous.

Man I wish they were! That would be so awsome. Makes great whites look like whimps.

that’s the calverton cliffs? i’m guessing been meaning to make a trip down there at some point, i’ve always went collecting around the canal

That big tooth might fetch you some cash if you were to ebay it.

Yeah, I’m not 100% sure as to the exact place we went (Jen and John were telling me where to turn) but I know it was the Calvet Cliffs Formation.

well this summer me and kids and john and icy are going to go my kids will love it. icy we will plan it when kids are around.

John gets to go, but what about Jon?

if you guys are interested you don’t have to drive 3 hours into maryland to find fossils, i used to go with my father to the c & d canal where certain areas are covered with mostly clam, and squid fossils…(balimite and exogyroponderosa) forgive the misspelled latin names didn’t feel like looking them up! anyway rarely you will find sharks teeth but its still fun and close

I was at Elk neck state park last year and collected tons of shark teeth on the shore.

Wow, I had no idea there were so many sharks teeth/fossil’s on our local shores. Time to take some trips! Although I do know there are tons of sand tiger sharks in the carolinas’, I’ve done a few dives with 50+ sharks surrounding and bumping me, and those sand tigers are MEAN looking.

Yeah they are … even meaner looking in 5ft vis.

Especially when you don’t make bubbles like the rest of the divers and they are extra interested in you.

Ahhh, you must be a rebreather diver. was wondering about the connection with mississippi lime. that is sorta risky diving, isn’t it? takes lots of careful prep.

Yessir. They say its risky, but I’m not dead yet!
Honestly understanding the mathematics, theory, design, and skills is all it takes. Careful prep, but more importantly careful pre-dive checks, you know check the life support system that keeps you alive.

Lol, so with a rebreather you not only don’t scare the little fish away, but the big man eating fish pay more attention to you?.. I gotta get my rebreathing certification! Man I can’t wait to get back in the water again. [(looks at bank account)] Maybe I can. :frowning:

Darn, I type too slow, I didn’t see Ken’s post before I typed that.

Do it!.. I won’t even begin to tell you how much $$ it adds up to get rebreather certified and dive one. Some rebreathers sell for $20k and some military units are north of $100k. eeek! There are some for around $2.5k as well.
