thanks ian for moving this to the proper area
No problemo…looks like you got that sucker stocked w/ some rock now!
so i built this rack to hold columns
but due to breaking some of the rock i guess im not going to use the front section (good thing i didnt cement the verticals) but the frame acts as a kickstand anyway…
just have to get the left ones off the glass… once i put the other rock in from my nano it’ll look real nice
id have to say those are some awesome pillars you have there sir…
thats going to look even better once you get some frags/corals!!!
What did you use to attach the rock to the pvc columns? That aquascaping looks really nice.
Tim, loving the setup! That stand and canopy look very nice! Rock columns are looking good too! Is there any way you could move a pillar or two out to the front though instead of all on the back wall? Can’t wait to see it stocked with corals and fish! When is the move over day you think?
Wow, I like, I’m very jealous! Come over and do my aquascaping?
One hint, if you put a piece of black plastic or something similar over the top of your overflow, not only will it keep fish from riding the water slide to the sump from jumping over the overflow, but it will also keep algae from growing in there and clogging everything.

i drilled holes through them and skewered them

in fact i can, the vertical tubes i did not cement, i can remove entire pillars whole and rearrange them lol
my original idea was to have the front pillars half the height… but then i broke half of the rocks drilling… ie the rubble at the bottom lol… oh well…
so now i may stagger them, i may leave them, but im going to lay the rock from the nano in the front a bit, no more drilling!
move over day is a while off, i filled the tank on june 1st so im going perhaps at least 6 weeks… rome wasnt built in a day, neither is a reef!! :BEER
good idea on keeping light out of the overflow icy, i’ll cover that up!
edit, here is the nano/donor for the new tank…
Looks really nice. Great job!
another question on the pvc. did you cap the ends or are they open?
open, i actually drilled holes in them to release air but also i was going to hook up my spare maxijet 1200 to it and have flow coming out of the rock pillars, but i decided i want that powerhead for my water changes and i want to minimize the look of equipment in the display
keep in mind capping would also make the ends bigger, and if you hide the ends you have to drill bigger holes
wow lookin really nice so far. i am a big fan of the whole vertical thing, it makes it diferent. what kinda corals are you goin with? softies? lps? sps?
either way im sure its gonna be awesome!
Very cool pillars.
UPDATE
my new ATO system works like a pro, i have my spare maxijet 1200 running it so it fills up pretty darn quick lol! coupled with a 30 gallon rubbermaid res. i should not have much of a problem with at least SP now
so um, when i was building the sump, i made what i figured would work like a bubble tower on the drain line, water goes out the bottom, air escapes from the top thru drilled holes…
LOL i forgot thats how a skimmer works too… so viola a pvc 9 dollar skimmer (with a donor cup)
just removed the cap with holes and put a threaded fitting and a cup lol
and its pulling more black stuff than my AquaC Remora!!!
Doing it that way is awesome… make gravity work for you! One less pump to run up the electric bill.

well i’ll still have the remora on there when i transfer all the stuff from the nano, but i was considering a larger skimmer… the remora is rated up to 75. mine is 75g with a 55 sump… so this way its like having 2 and its working amazingly!
do you have your return pump inside your refugium portion of your sump?

no its one more chamber over
the third picture on this thread shows the baffles then the fuge area and the pump area on the left… although i’ve turned that around to the baffles are on the left and return portion on the right.
