i had a power outage the other day and traced it back to my koralia pump just inspected it today and found bare wire where the urchin chewed through it!! Now i may have to buy a new pump but before i do i was thinking about siliconing the cord to water proof it and then protect the cord with a piece of vinyl? any one repair a cord before that will be under water constantly? if so any suggestions are welcome i just want it to be safe and work without spending $100+ just because of a cord.
You shorly can just splice it together but i wouldn’t unless you can make it to the-splice is out of the water or else you can risk fire and killing your fish from electric shock if at best you might be able to take it apart and re run a whole new wire if any thing if you siliconethere always have a chance of a leak and then you can wind up worse then just needing a ph
Tim, 3m makes an underwater splice kit for pond/ fountain pumps…but its like $40 bucks…
I’m guessing it prob chewed it right close to the powerhead though ::
how bad is it?
if its a small area, I’ve got a couple diy ideas, if you want to try… none tried and tested, but easy, and i think it would work… silicone, rigid air tubing (as a snug sleeve) and/ or “shrink” tubing…
so how’s the grounding probe you bought working? did the whole house go off? when did that happen? i’d be really worried about fixes. what’s a hundred to you? a clam from dr mac is more!! think of it as insurance. a 1 time payment.
TWo things come to mind. First is liquid electrical tape. It is a liquid rubber you apply to the bare wires. Then there is heat shrink tubing for wires that contains a heat activated sealant to seal out moisture. Both are usually found at better marine stores. Do not know if either are reef safe.

IMO, the safest and easiest fix is to just go ahead and replace the pump. Usually any quick fix is temporary, and never as good as the original. Just having the peace of mind that it will not short out again is worth the money. Chalk it up to a lessen learned.

that’s the 2 oldest smartest people on this thread offering the same advice.
Whatever you decide, just don’t “toss” it… if you want to replace it to be 100% safe, i wouldn’t blame you…
but if you want it fixed for a salt mixer, or a backup… i’d be willing to give it a go…
As i age, i may scare easier though, so , you may want to take me up on that offer within the next 60 years. ::
thanks for all the replies it is $90 and free shipping lucky its not the tunze… i did clean it up and silicone it, i would use rubber tape or heat shrink which i already have but worried about reef safe. I think this will be ok im gonna silicone it three times wait for each coat to fully cure and then cut some 3/8 ro tubing and wrap it around the cord same with all the pumps so they don’t chew through it again. I probably would get another one just to be safe, and use this for something else. the ground probe works fine paul and yours is waiting for you to pick up

100 % agree
There no reason to take a chance. Even if it’s one of those $100 korallias how much were your clams. Excessive electrical currant will stress and kill them.
Have you tried a Minn Kota?
